Kagiso Rabada has his fourth wicket of the match and third of the session as India are now six down. It was a tough ball for number seven, Ravichandran Ashwin who had to play at it. It kissed the edge of the bat’s shoulder and Wiaan Mulder took a great jumping catch in the third slip.

In the first 8 overs in the second session, the Proteas have been all over the Indian team, taking two wickets and conceding only 29 runs. More importantly, both the set Indian batters Shreyas Iyer and Virat Kohli are back in the hut and KL Rahul and Ravichandran Ashwin are left to build the innings all over again.

One of the most important balls of the series probably as Kagiso Rabada bowls an unplayable outswinger and Kohli has a sniff at it. It kisses the edge of Kohli’s bat and Kyle Verreyenne behind the stumps does the rest as India lose their fifth wicket.

It seems like South African pacers have learned something or the other from the first session and they are not looking to offer any room to Kohli. And just as I say, Burger offers room and Kohli dispatches it for a four. Kgiao Rabada though has been bang on length.

Kagiso Rabada has struck right after Lunch and Shreyas Iyer has been cleaned up here as Proteas march back into the game with an early wicket in the session. The 68-run partnership between him and Kohli comes to an end.

India vs South Africa Live Score| 1st Test Day 1: Lunch taken

 

India will be the happier team heading to the dressing rooms as Lucnh has been taken in the Boxing Day Test at Centurion. Proteas took the early lead, taking three Indian wickets for just 24 runs on the board. With skipper Rohit Sharma, Shubman Gill and Yashasvi Jaiswal back in the hut, the pressure was on India. 

 

Virat Kohli and Shreyas Iyer were dropped on a score of four runs each with Tony de Zorzi and MMarco Jansen being the culprits. Now they have added 67 off just 90 balls, and taken control of the game with India at 91/3 in 26 overs. Proteas must ponder over at Lunch on how to dismiss the two Indian batters. Virat is batting 33 while Iyer has scored 31. 

 

Debutant Nadre Burger was the pick of the bowlers for the Proteas, taking 2/23 in his first five overs, One catch was dropped off his bowling as well. The second Proteas bowler to take a wicket is Kagiso Rabada.

Virat Kohli and Shreyas Iyer have now added 68 for the fourth wicket and brought India back into the game after they were left reeling at 24/3. Sure they have got one chance each, but they have utilised the chance and that's what matters.

Marco Jansen has not only dropped a catch of Shreyas Iyer, but he has also not been effective as a bowler in this match, going for 21 runs in his first six overs as the Proteas try to change the ball. They are talking to the umpires, but the result is not going in their favour.

Iyer seems to have traded luck with the luckiest guy today as one of the edges of the outside of his blade flies over the gully fielder and on the very next ball, an inside edge reaches the leg slip fielder on one bounce. Coetzee remains wicketless as Iyer continues to get runs.

Temba Bavuma, who recovered just before this game from an injury, has injured himself once again it seems while chasing a ball. He missed his footing and is now holding on to his left foot and walking back with the team physio as Wiaan Mulder replaces him as the substitute fielder.

It is the second drop catch of the match and this one has come courtesy of Tony de Zorzi who puts down yet another sitter and this one is Virat Kohli. Temba Bavuma and Nadre Burger would be scratching their heads at this drop. Kohli is not someone to let go of things easily.

It could have very well been four down if Marco Jansen did not drop a straightforward chance against Shreyas Iyer. Iyer went for the drive and hit straight to the point where Jasnen tried to catch it reverse cupped, but could not hold on to it.
