Bumrah gets the first ball to come back and Root manages to get an inside edge. England are getting defensive in their approach now and that is the chance for India to get quick wickets and kill the game in the third innings itself. Bumrah brings the slower one out and gets a leading edge from Pope. 

 

However, it is the in-swinger from Bumrah that does in Root as the Englishman has been given out Leg Before Wicket. He has reviewed it straightaway but there seems to be no bat involved at all. It is the umpire’s call on the wickets hitting and Bumrah has shaken England up.

India vs England 1st Test Day 3 Live Updates: What happened in the first session?

 

In the first session, India came out to bat at their overnight score of 421/7 with Axar Patel and Ravindra Jadeja in the middle. They could add only 15 runs to the total as Joe Root took two wickets (Jadeja and Jasprit Bumrah) on consecutive deliveries before Rehan Ahmed had Axar bowled to get India all-out for 436, with a first-innings lead of 190 runs. 

 

England came out to bat with a positive approach, scoring 20 runs in the first six overs playing all kinds of sweeps and reverse sweeps. Ben Duckett and Zak Crawley managed to put on 45 for the first wicket before Crawley was caught playing the only defensive shot he did in the morning. 

 

Duckett took over the mantle as he added an unbeaten 44 with Pope to take England to Lunch at 89/1. They trail by just 101 runs. 26 overs and 104 runs and four wickets in the morning session.
