Does a big lead to worry The Three Lions? Zak Crawley reveals England batter mindset

The broadcasters have caught up with Zak Crawley ahead of Day 3 start of play. Crawley said that they won't think about the deficit too much.

"I'm finding it enjoyable and it's been interesting. Playing cricket in different parts of the world is what you enjoy doing. Australia was different; prior to coming over here, we had a nice camp in Abu Dhabi. Pakistan's wickets were better for hitters, but we knew spin would play a big part here. The conditions are pretty similar to those in Pakistan, with the exception that this place is a little bit more spin-friendly. The boys bowled well, but they batted better, so we weren't shocked. The pitch did appear to be slowing down, and perhaps it will continue to do so today as well, which will ease our workload somewhat. We'll approach the game similarly, always going with the positive route. We won't dwell on the deficit too much."

India vs England 1st Test Day 3 pitch report

Here's what Kevin Pieterson and Murali Karthik said about Day 3 pitch

"It's a really nice morning. India is in the lead, with England far behind. A fantastic day of cricket is in store. There are footholes, and Mark Wood has given the Indian spinners—Ashwin in particular—better opportunities to utilize what would be an excellent length for Ashwin to bowl to the right-handers. KL Rahul thought it was moving more slowly. The pitch moved 0.5 meters more quickly on day one than it did on day two. That is a significant distinction. The batter can adjust as a result. In my opinion, it will spin far, and we might witness a Test match that concludes today."

Big blow to England's comeback plan?

England's spin-bowling coach, Jeetan Patel, revealed that left-arm spinner Jack Leach aggravated his knee injury during the second day of the first Test against India on Friday in Hyderabad.

Leach who is the most experienced spinner among the four injured his knee while trying to save a boundary on day one. He aggravated his injury on the morning of the second day. As a result, Leach just bowled 16 overs out of 87, bowling at most four overs in a spell and also leaving the field to receive treatment.

"He banged his knee last night, the first dive down at fine leg. Then he banged it again today and it's giving him a little gyp, to be honest. You noticed in the outfield he was a little sluggish trying to get to balls, but he stuck at it and I thought he actually bowled really, really well considering," Jeetan said, as quoted from ESPNcricinfo.

"It must be pretty serious, or serious for him anyway, because the reality is he wouldn't shirk that responsibility. It is sore enough. You watch him in the outfield and I don't think it's a graze. For him to come back and keep bowling the overs he did... I believe he'll be back in the fourth innings," Jeetan stated.

"That's what Jack does for this team, he'll always put in. But it's an bit of a shame from where he's come [recovering from a stress fracture of the back last summer] to dive on one at fine leg and all of a sudden you're hobbling around. He'll be back. He's one of the strongest guys in the team. We've had to share the load and I thought the guys did really well," Jeetan added.

In Leach's limited presence, Joe Root took the onus and bowled 25 overs scalping two while spilling away 77 runs. He removed set batter Yashasvi Jaiswal (80) and Srikar Bharat (41) turning the tides in favour of the visitors.

Jeetan was hopeful about Leach's comeback stating that he had one night of rest and said, "He's got another night to rest it. He's a tough bloke and he'll be raring to go. He's never going to shirk the responsibility of the job he has, but it's about being smart as well. We've got four Tests to go and another innings at the back end of this game. We need a key man like Jack.

KL Rahul provides batting template for Hyderabad wicket

Ahead of the third day's play, KL Rahul said that the wicket is not favourable to bat and if a batter needs to score, he must create opportunity.

On missing out on a century: “I could have got out on zero, so I will take the 86. May be tomorrow I’ll turn up and feel I missed out on a century. But today, I enjoyed being out in the middle. We watched England play yesterday and I felt like it wasn’t a wicket where you could wait for the loose balls to come, you had to create some opportunities and try to put the bowlers off their line and length. I was looking for opportunities to score runs. I had a few shots in mind and was prepared to take my chances if the bowlers bowled there.”

On his game plan: “I wanted to see where I could get runs. I spoke to Rohit in the morning, and he told me the wicket is a bit slow and you can’t go out there and start playing your shots. So, I just gave myself a bit of time and once I got a few shots going, I was only thinking how I could get runs.”

Here's what has happened on Day 2 of IND vs ENG 1st Test

India's 421 for seven after the second day of play of the first Test here on Friday was largely driven by KL Rahul's mastery and Ravindra Jadeja's two-layered fifty. This total put India well ahead of England.

At stumps, Jadeja (81 batting) and Axar Patel (35 batting), who put together an uninterrupted eighth-wicket stand of 63 runs, are at the crease.

Now that India has a 175-run lead, England will have a difficult time erasing it when they get to bat on the third day.

However, Jadeja's ability to manage risk was a major factor in India's tectonic rise to the top on a slightly tacky pitch.

It was perfect, in a way, for the left-hander, who enjoys a middle-of-the-road scrap. Rahul was in full swing when Jadeja came to bat, and he contributed a few blows of his own to the celebration.

As a matter of fact, India made 35 runs off of the first 40 balls he faced, quickly taking the lead and narrowing the deficit with England.

However, Jadeja had to change his strategy after Rahul was dismissed after scoring 86 runs off 123 balls. At that point, India's lead was still just 42, and the home team needed him to bat for a long time in order to build more floors above that.
