In today's (Thursday, October 12) match of the ICC World Cup 2023, Australia captain Pat Cummins won the toss and decided to bowl first against South Africa at the Bharat Ratna Shri Atal Bihari Vajpayee Ekana Cricket Stadium in Lucknow. 
 

Australia made two changes in their playing 11 as Marcus Stoinis came in for Cameron Green while Josh Inglis replaced Alex Carey as the wicket-keeper batter. For South Africa, there was one change in the playing 11 as Gerald Coetzee made way for Tabraiz Shamsi in the playing 11.

Australia’s Marcus Stoinis is fit and ready to play feels skipper Pat Cummins, although the playing 11 is yet to be named. “He's fit so yeah, we'll announce a team tomorrow but it's a ground he knows pretty well. I think chatting to him and a couple of other guys, it’s probably in a bit of a different condition to what it is for IPL. It is going to be a tough game and Quinton de Kock feels that whoever holds the nerves in pressure situations and makes the right choices will win the match. 

 

Speaking in the pre-match press conference, he said, “Because Australians and we have always had a great history, a good competitive background, so yeah, I think that's just what it is. I think both teams are going to come out fighting tomorrow, and whoever makes the right choices under pressure will be the stronger team at the end of the day.”

Aiden Markram, the only South African skipper to win a World Cup trophy (ICC U-19 World Cup 2014) also became the fastest centurion in World Cup history as he smashed a hundred against Sri Lanka. 

 

Talking about his growth, de Kock said, “I think he's doing well. For a guy his age, he's got a lot of experience ahead of him in the batting department to help guide him. I think he's very talented. He's a big hitter of the ball. Plays spin well and he's looking to improve every time. So, I think just give him a chance. He's still young so let him just grow in his ways and his position. I'm sure he'll be a great for us one day.”

Asked about what he thinks of his batting unit as the best in-form top-six going ahead in the World Cup, Quinton de Kock, one of the three centurions in the match against Sri Lanka said, “I think we're doing really well as a batting unit; we’ve worked really hard in our game the last couple of years. It's only one game into the World Cup, so it's hard to say how we're really going.” 

 

“Even though we've had it really well in our last couple of games, it hasn't been over the course of years. I think in order for us to be one of the best we need to be, we still need to be a bit more consistent. Especially in tight games like World Cups,” he added further.
