JMM's Kalpana Soren leads by 26,000 votes in Gandey bypoll in J'khand

Kalpana Soren, the wife of jailed former Jharkhand chief minister Hemant Soren, was leading by about 26,000 votes over her nearest BJP rival Dilip Kumar Verma in the Gandey assembly bypoll, election officials said on Tuesday.

 

She was earlier trailing by a margin of 2,242 votes.

 

The seat fell vacant following the resignation of JMM MLA Sarfaraz Ahmad.

 

The counting of votes for the Gandey assembly by-election is likely to be completed in 24 rounds.

 

The polls in Gandey were held on May 20, and 2.17 lakh of 3.16 lakh voters had exercised their franchise.

Opposition raised irrelevant issues, NDA got people's support, blessings: Rajasthan BJP chief

Opposition parties tried to mislead people by raising irrelevant issues during the elections and it was the NDA which got the support, love and blessings of all, Rajasthan BJP chief C P Joshi said on Tuesday as the NDA inched closer to victory in the Lok Sabha polls.
 

"The Lok Sabha results are not as expected. We are still waiting for the final results. But the counting trends clearly shows that an NDA government is going to be formed at the Centre," Joshi told reporters during a press conference at the BJP state headquarters.

Election Results LIVE: Mamata holds on to Bengal bastion, stops BJP juggernaut

Bharatiya Janata Party's Campaign strategy for Lok Saabha Polls in West Bengal failed to bring fruitful results as Trinamool Congress is leading on 30 seats in West Bengal as the counting of votes in the Lok Sabha polls is progressing, as per the Election Commission.

 

West Bengal contributes 42 Lok Sabha seats in the 543-member Parliament. The Bharatiya Janata Party's main focus was to dislodge Mamata Banerjee from West Bengal and even targeted the TMC government over Sandeshkhali, but the trends till 2 pm showed that BJP is leading on 10 seats.

 

The Trinamool Congress is leading on 30 seats, BJP on 10 and Congress on 1 and CPI(M) on one seat, as per the ECI.
