Party leader Sanjay Nirupam was removed from the list of star campaigners on Wednesday by the Maharashtra unit of Congress. The proposal for his expulsion will be forwarded to Delhi for consideration by the Congress Disciplinary Committee.

Boxer Vijender Singh joined the BJP today ahead of the Lok Sabha polls. The Olympic medallist had contested the 2019 polls as a Congress candidate from the South Delhi constituency.

National Conference President and sitting MP from Srinagar Farooq Abdullah will not contest the Lok Sabha polls due to health reasons, his son and former J-K Chief Minister Omar Abdullah said.

Former Bihar Deputy Chief Minister Sushil Kumar Modi announces that he will not be participating in the polls as he is battling cancer. He made the announcement on X, formerly known as Twitter and wrote that he has been battling cancer since six months. He further added that the Prime Minister has already been informed of his health condition. 

Congress leader Rahul Gandhi will arrive in Wayanad on Wednesday to file his nomination papers for the forthcoming Lok Sabha polls.He will arrive by helicopter at Muppainad, a village in Wayanad, and will travel by road till Kalpetta, the party said.

Ahead of the upcoming General Elections, Vanchit Bahujan Aghadi (VBA) released its third list of candidates of five candidates for Lok Sabha polls in Maharashtra. This comes a day after the party had declared the second list of 11 candidates on Monday. Earlier, VBA chief Prakash Ambedkar took a jab at the Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA), saying that the differences between the partners in the Opposition alliance in the state were coming to the fore and there was a clear divergence of opinion within. Ambedkar, the grandson of BR Ambedkar, earlier announced candidates for nine Lok Sabha seats in the state, dealing a blow to hopes of his party joining the MVA.  On Friday, former Maharashtra Chief Minister and Congress leader Prithviraj Chavan stated that if Prakash Ambedkar does not join the Maha Vikas Aghadi, then it means that he is helping the BJP. Chavan stated that votes will be divided if Ambedkar does not extend support to the MVA.

Nine more contenders filed their nomination papers from Jammu Lok Sabha constituency on Tuesday. The total number of candidates who have filed their nomination papers from Jammu Lok Sabha seat stands at 13, a spokesperson said. Polling in Jammu will be conducted on April 26. The nine candidates who filed their nomination papers on Tuesday are Congress' Raman Bhalla, Ekam Sanatan Bharat Dal's Ankur Sharma, J&K Nationalist People's Front's Swami Divya Nand, National Awami United Party's Shikha Bandral and five Independents -- Raj Kumar, Shaber Ahmed, Prince Raina, Karanjit and Bansi Lal. The last date for filing nominations is April 4.

Lok Sabha polls: BSP releases list of 12 candidates, fields Sarvar Malik from Lucknow

The Bahujan Samaj Party on Wednesday released its third list of 12 Lok Sabha poll candidates for Uttar Pradesh, fielding Nandkishore Pundir from Ghaziabad and Sarvar Malik from Lucknow. With this, the Mayawati-led party has declared its candidates for 37 seats out of total 80 parliamentary seats in the state. According to the latest list released by the BSP office here, the party declared its candidates for Ghaziabad, Aligarh, Mainpuri, Lucknow and Mirzapur seats, among others. In Mathura, the party has changed its candidate and now Suresh Singh will be in the electoral fray in place of Kamal Kant Upmanyu. Singh has been made BSP candidate against sitting BJP MP and actor Hema Malini.

Election Commission reviews law and order, security situation for Lok Sabha polls

The Election Commission (EC) on Wednesday directed the chief secretaries and directors general of police of all states as well as the heads of central agencies to ensure peaceful and inducement-free Lok Sabha polls and maintain a strict vigil along the inter-state and international borders to plug the inflow of illicit liquor, cash, drugs and arms. Preemptive measures to address communal tensions based on past experiences and the imperative of securing porous borders against illegal activities were also discussed.

BJP leader Ravi Shankar Prasad today charged Congress leader Rahul Gandhi with having "run away from Amethi", the Lok Sabha constituency in Uttar Pradesh represented by the latter until defeat at the hands of Union minister Smriti Irani.  Prasad also said that Gandhi has shifted base to Wayanad "because of heavy concentration of Muslims and Christians" in the Kerala constituency, but claimed, "he is in for a tough fight there too".
