Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday congratulated the Indian Space Research Organisation and its scientists on the successful launch of the country's first solar mission.

India launched its first observation mission to the Sun on Saturday (September 2), just days after the country scripted history by becoming the first to land near the Moon's south pole. The satellite Aditya-L1, with seven payloads, was carried by PSLV C57 (polar satellite launch vehicle). It lifted off from Sriharikota at 11:50 am. After nearly an hour and several stages, the satellite separated from its launch vehicle and it will now commence its journey and mission to study the sun.

The country's maiden solar mission -- Aditya-L1 is all set to be launched today at 11:50.

With the launch rehearsal and vehicle internal checks all being completed, the Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) is all set for the country's maiden solar mission -- Aditya-L1 from the Satish Dhawan Space Centre (SDSC-SHAR) in AP's Sriharikota. Shifting the focus to its next space odyssey after successfully placing a lander on the moon's uncharted South Pole region on August 23, ISRO is going to launch India's first solar space observatory Aditya-L1 by the PSLV-C57.

ISRO to provide next level of solar data to world with Aditya-L1: Osmania Varsity professor

ISRO's solar mission Aditya-L1, which was launched on Saturday will demonstrate the extent of the country's capabilities and provide the world with the next level of solar data, stated Rukmini Jagirdar, Assistant Professor in the Department of Astronomy at Osmania University.

The professor said that with the launch of Aditya-L1, India is going to make a milestone in space exploration.

"This will show how far ISRO can go and prove its capability. This is the first time India is going to send a satellite to monitor the Sun in space. After many satellites from the US, Europe, and Japan, very few countries have explored the Sun," Jagirdar said

Aditya L-1 launch: How Europe is assisting ISRO's solar mission

With the highly-anticipated Aditya-L1 solar mission taking flight on Saturday, the European Space Agency (ESA) is lending a crucial hand in two significant ways: by offering deep space communication services and aiding ISRO in validating critical new flight dynamics software.

Communication is an essential part of every space mission. Without ground station support, it is impossible to get any science data from a spacecraft, to know how it is doing, to know if it is safe or even to know where it is, ESA said.

ESA's global network of deep space tracking stations and use of internationally recognised technical standards allows us to help our partners track, command, and receive data from their spacecraft almost anywhere in the solar system, said Ramesh Chellathurai, ESA Service Manager and ESA Cross-Support Liaison Officer for ISRO.
