Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal was on Monday brought to the Tihar Jail in the national capital after a city court sent him to judicial custody earlier in the day, an official confirmed.
“He was brought to Tihar jail and will be lodged in jail number 2. He was taken for a medical examination. He will be kept in a separate cell,” the jail official said. He was sent to judicial custody by Delhi’s Rouse Avenue court after his custody with the Enforcement Directorate ended today.
The development triggered a protest outside the jail ahead of the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) chief’s arrival, who will be under judicial custody till April 15 in the excise policy-linked money laundering case.

Kejriwal was arrested on March 21 by the ED in the ongoing probe linked to the now scrapped Delhi liquor policy 2021-22.
Kejriwal demands books in jail
The Delhi CM’s lawyers have moved an application, seeking permission for Kejriwal to read three books in the jail. These include Ramayana, Bhagavad Gita and How Prime Ministers Decide by Neerja Chowdhury. The AAP convenor has also sought permission to keep a religious locket and special diet.
What is Tihar Jail's daily routine like?
According to NDTV, Kejriwal could have a rigorous jail routine, which will require him to start his day at around 6:30 AM. For breakfast, the prisoners get tea and slices of bread, followed by dal-sabzi, roti and rice for lunch. Prisoners are then locked in their cells from noon to 3PM, the report said.
At 3:30PM, they are provided with evening tea and biscuits, following which they can meet their lawyers at around 4PM. In Tihar, the dinner is provided at 5:30PM, in which the prisoners are served the meal as lunch. The day comes to an end for them by 7PM, when they are locked in their cells again.
Sisodia, Sanjay Singh locked up in other cells
AAP leader and former Delhi deputy CM Manish Sisodia, who is also facing jail for the alleged scam, is lodged in jail number one. MP Sanjay Singh, another arrested AAP leader in the case, is lodged in jail number five.
BRS leader K Kavitha is in Jail number 6 of the women's jail.
The case pertains to Kejriwal and other AAP leader’s involvement in an alleged conspiracy related to the formulation of the excise policy favouring specific individuals. The ED had sought 15-day judicial custody of Kejriwal, saying he was “totally uncooperative”.
