World community should find just solution to Israel-Palestine issue: Mirwaiz Umar Farooq
Hurriyat Conference chairman Mirwaiz Umar Farooq on Saturday called on the world community to fulfil its responsibility and find a just solution to the Israel-Palestine issue, saying people on both sides should be able to live in peace and with dignity.
"The sentiments of the people of Jammu and Kashmir along with the Islamic world have been hurt. The people whose hearts can feel the pain are disheartened to see the silence (over the issue). We are seeing how bombs are showered on elders, children, women and innocents, and killings are taking place, the Mirwaiz told reporters here.
He said the time has come for the world community to fulfil its responsibility to find a "just solution" to the issue.
Mandaviya inaugurates Nagaland's first medical college
Union Health Minister Mansukh Mandaviya on Saturday inaugurated Nagaland's first medical college -- the Nagaland Institute of Medical Sciences & Research (NIMSR).
Mandaviya unveiled the monolith marking the inauguration, in the presence of Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio, Deputy CM TR Zeliang, state ministers, MLAs and bureaucrats.
The college has 100 seats -- 85 for students of Nagaland and 15 for other states.
Addressing the function, Mandaviya said that the first medical college of the state will not only impart medical education but it will also be a research centre.
USAir India, SpiceJet to operate flights to Tel Aviv on Saturday
Air India and SpiceJet will operate one flight each to Tel Aviv on Saturday to bring back Indians amid escalating tensions due to the conflict between Israel and Hamas, according to officials.
These chartered flights will be operated under Operation Ajay, which the government has launched to facilitate the return of those who wish to come back from Israel.
The officials in the know said Air India will be operating a flight from the national capital to Tel Aviv while SpiceJet will operate a flight from Amritsar to Tel Aviv. Both flights are expected to return and land at the Delhi airport on Sunday morning, they added.
One of the officials said Air India is scheduled to operate another flight to Tel Aviv on Sunday.
On Saturday morning, an Air India flight AI 140 returned to the national capital with 235 Indians from Israel.
SC directs Centre to apprise it about action taken for rice fortification labelling norms
The Supreme Court has directed the Centre to apprise it about steps taken to comply with a provision of the Food Safety and Standards (Fortification of Foods) Regulations, 2018, that labels on bags containing fortified rice should carry an advisory that it is harmful for people suffering from sickle cell anaemia and thalassemia.
A bench of Justice S K Kaul and Justice Sudhanshu Dhulia asked the Union of India to file an affidavit within four weeks and inform it about the action taken.
"Counsel has entered appearance for the Union of India and will obtain instructions as to what steps have been taken in respect of the subject matter of the grievance in the present petition and as to whether any action has been taken on the representation already made by the petitioner(s).
MP assembly polls: Early voters in Indore to get free poha, jalebi from food shop owners
The proprietors of shops located in '56 Dukan', a famous food hub in Indore city of Madhya Pradesh, have decided to offer free snacks comprising poha and jalebi to those casting votes early in the upcoming assembly elections, a move aimed at boosting the voter turnout.
Elections to the 230-member Madhya Pradesh assembly will be held in a single phase on November 17.
The shopkeepers have announced that anybody who casts a vote in the early hours of polls will get free poha and jalebi after showing the indelible ink mark on the finger.
Murder of dreams: Rahul slams BRS over woman job aspirant's suicide
The Congress on Saturday slammed the K Chandrasekhar Rao-led BRS government in Telangana over the alleged suicide of a 23-year-old woman preparing for competitive exams, with Rahul Gandhi saying this was not a suicide but murder of the dreams and aspirations of youths.
Gandhi alleged that in the last 10 years, "BJP Rishtedar Samithi BRS and BJP together have ruined the state with their incompetence".
"The Congress government in Telangana will release a job calendar, reorganise TSPSC on the lines of UPSC in 1 month and fill 2 lakh vacant government posts within a year - this is a guarantee," he said.

The BJP played no role in the arrest of TDP chief N Chandrababu Naidu in the Skill Development Corporation scam case, Andhra Pradesh unit president D Purandeswari said on Saturday.
She said that the allegation is being "unnecessarily circulated in media circles", and asked if Union Home Minister Amit Shah would meet TDP General Secretary Nara Lokesh if her party was involved.

Air India suspends scheduled flights to Tel Aviv till Oct 18
Air India has extended the suspension of its scheduled flights to and from Tel Aviv till October 18, amid the ongoing conflict between Israel and militant group Hamas.
The full service carrier, which normally operates five weekly scheduled flights to Tel Aviv, had earlier suspended the services till October 14.
An airline official on Saturday said the scheduled flights to and from Tel Aviv have now been suspended till October 18.
Cong slams ministry probe into accounts of Adani group's two Mumbai airports, calls it 'sham'

WHO plane carrying medical supplies for people of Gaza lands in Egypt
A World Health Organization (WHO) plane carrying medical supplies to support urgent health needs in Gaza has landed at Al-Arish airport in Egypt. The medical supplies will be delivered to Gaza to meet critical health needs as soon as humanitarian access through the Rafah crossing is established.
WHO Director-General Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus reiterated his call on Israel to reconsider its decision to evacuate 1.1 million people in Gaza. His remarks come after Israeli Defence Forces urged residents of Gaza to move from the northern part to the southern part of the enclave.
Taking to X, Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus stated, "A plane with @WHO medical supplies to support the urgent health needs in Gaza has landed in Al Arish, #Egypt - close to the Rafah crossing. We're ready to deploy the supplies as soon as humanitarian access through the crossing is established. We continue our plea to Israel to reconsider the decision to evacuate 1.1 million people. It will be a human tragedy."

We won't stop until they're home: Biden assures families of US citizens stuck in Israel
US President Joe Biden on Saturday assured the family members of Americans stuck in Israel attacks that they will do everything possible to return them to their families.
Taking it to his social media 'X', formerly known as Twitter, Biden stated, "This morning, I spoke with family members of Americans who are still unaccounted for following the terrorist attack in Israel. I assured them of my personal commitment to do everything possible to return them to their families."
He further added, "We won't stop until they're home."
India yet to make formal bid for hosting World Athletics Championships in 2027
The Athletics Federation of India (AFI) will need a "couple of more days" to decide on making a formal bid for hosting the World Athletics Championships in 2027, said its president Adille Sumariwalla here on Saturday.
While the recent edition of the Worlds was held in Budapest, Hungary, the next championships will be held in Japan in 2025 with India in the fray to make a formal bid for hosting the event.
"We have not made a formal bid," Sumariwalla told PTI during an event organised by the AFI and the World Athletics (WA) here.
"We are discussing that internally and in the next couple of days, we will finalise that," Sumariwalla added.
Massive fire at edible oil godown in Howrah, 15 engines working to douse it
A massive fire broke out at a godown of edible oil in West Bengal's Howrah district on Saturday morning, officials said.
The fire broke out at the godown of Emami Agrotech in Bhagabatipur in Sankrail police station area around 6.30 am, they said.
Fifteen fire engines were working to bring the blaze under control, they said.
The cause of the fire is yet to be ascertained, officials said, adding that there were no reports of anyone being injured in the incident.
