Court allows wrestler Bajrang Punia's exemption plea in defamation case
The Patiala House Court of Delhi on Thursday allowed the exemption application moved the Wrestler Bajrang Punia through his lawyer stating that Punia on September 13, 2023, went to the Kyrgyzstan for upcoming Asian Games and its practice sessions.
The Court had issued a summons to him in a defamation case.
The Metropolitan Magistrate Yashdeep Chahal noted the submission, exempted Bajrang Punia's personal appearance and fixed the matter for October 17, 2023, for the next hearing and appearance of the wrestler in the matter.
Youth Congress, NSUI workers detained for protesting PM's visit to Chhattisgarh
Nearly 80 workers of the Congress' youth and student wings were on Thursday detained in Chhattisgarh's Raigarh for protesting against Prime Minister Narendra Modi's scheduled visit to the city in the afternoon, over the issue of unemployment and "cancellations" of trains.
The PM is scheduled to dedicate rail sector projects worth around Rs 6,350 crore and address a public rally at around 3 pm in Kodatarai village, around 8 km away from here.
Around 80 workers of the Youth Congress and NSUI (National Students' Union of India) were detained here at Gandhi Chowk as a precautionary measure when they were marching ahead carrying placards opposing the PM's visit and raising slogans, said Sub Divisional Officer of Police Dipak Mishra.
Arvinder Singh Lovely formally takes charge as Delhi Congress chief
Newly appointed Delhi Pradesh Congress Committee (DPCC) president Arvinder Singh Lovely formally took charge of office on Thursday.
He said reviving the party in the national capital and fixing its organisational structure are among his first priorities.
Lovely was first elected as an MLA in 1998 from the Gandhi Nahar seat. He worked closely with former chief minister, the late Shiela Dikshit.
Goa govt introduces strict clause in shack policy to discourage subletting
The Goa State Shack Policy 2023-26 approved by the state cabinet last week has introduced a strict clause to discourage allottees from subletting beach shacks to other people, Tourism Minister Rohan Khaunte said on Thursday.
As per the new policy, which will be in effect till 2026 and aims to boost youth engagement and tourism growth in the coastal state, only one member from a family will be allotted a shack, the minister told reporters.
Unlike the previous policy, there is no longer a requirement to submit Demand Draft as a security deposit at the time of submitting the application. Instead, this deposit is only necessary after the draw of lots and solely from successful allottees, he said.
Padma awards recommendations, nominations to be accepted till Sept 15
The online process for nominations and recommendations for the Padma Awards 2024 are underway and the last date is on Friday, September 15.
Asking general public to send their nominations and recommendations for the awards, the Union Home Ministry has said it will be received online only on the Rashtriya Puruskar Portal (https://awards.gov.in ).
The Padma awards -- Padma Vibhushan, Padma Bhushan and Padma Shri -- are amongst the highest civilian awards of the country.
All citizens can make nominations and recommendations, including self-nomination.
