Tomato prices decline in Karnataka to Rs 20 per kg as supply improves

From a high of Rs 140 per kg in the wholesale market a few weeks ago, the prices of tomatoes have come down sharply in parts of Karnataka to about Rs 20 as supply of the commodity has improved substantially, officials said on Monday.

In the Mysuru APMC (Agricultural Produce Marketing Committee) yard, for example, tomato prices were down to Rs 14 per kg on Sunday.

Mizoram govt incurs Rs 4.88 crore wasteful expenditure due to negligence: CAG

The Comptroller and Auditor General (CAG) of India has slammed the Mizoram government for incurring an "avoidable" expenditure of Rs 4.88 crore on formation cutting of Darlak-Sihthiang road in Mamit district due to "negligence".

The CAG report tabled in the assembly by Chief Minister Zoramthanga in the recently concluded session said that the construction of the Darlak-Sihthiang road was undertaken under the Pradhan Mantri Gram Sadak Yojana (PMGSY) despite the village being already connected.

With only 10 days remaining for the completion of one lunar day, Nilesh M Desai, Director, Space Applications Centre (SAC) on Sunday said that the Chandrayaan-3's rover module Pragyan, moving on the surface of the moon, is in a "race against time" and that the ISRO scientists are working to cover a maximum distance of the uncharted South pole through the six-wheeled rover.

The scientist said that "real work" starts only after a soft landing on the moon's surface.

Jan Dhan Yojana revolutionised financial inclusion in India: FM Sitharaman

Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman on Monday said Jan Dhan Yojana-led interventions and digital transformation have revolutionised financial inclusion in the country, as more than 50 crore people have been brought into the formal banking system with cumulative deposits surpassing Rs 2 lakh crore.

On the ninth anniversary of the Pradhan Mantri Jan Dhan Yojana (PMJDY), which is one of the biggest financial inclusion initiatives in the world, Sitharaman in her message said 55.5 per cent bank accounts have been opened by women, and 67 per cent have been opened in rural/semi-urban areas.

PM Modi to distribute over 51,000 appointment letters at 'Rozgar Mela' today

Prime Minister Narendra Modi will distribute more than 51,000 appointment letters to newly inducted recruits on Monday morning.

The PM will launch the 8th edition of Rozgar Mela and deliver his address virtually across 45 locations in the country, his office said in a statement. "The Rojgar Mela is an important step towards fulfilling our commitment to give top priority to employment generation. Following the same, I will be getting an opportunity to distribute more than 51,000 appointment letters today at 10:30 am through video conferencing," PM Modi said in a post on social media platform X.

Pak requests $300 mn loan from Asian Development Bank for water project

Pakistan has requested the Asian Development Bank (ADB) for a USD 300 million loan for the water project, Dawn reported.

The cash-strapped country had already secured a USD 3 billion bailout plan from the International Monetary Fund in July, and still, Pakistan is looking for a loan for the Kurram Tangi Integrated Water Resources Development project.
