Union Home Minister Amit Shah who will preside over the 31st meeting of the Northern Zonal Council being held here arrived in the city on Tuesday, officials said.
Tight security arrangements have been made in Amritsar in the wake of the NZC meeting, said officials.
Punjab cabinet ministers Harpal Singh Cheema and Kuldeep Singh Dhaliwal received the Union home minister at the airport here.
The NZC which comprises Punjab, Haryana, Rajasthan and Himachal Pradesh and the Union Territories of Delhi, Jammu and Kashmir, Ladakh and Chandigarh.
Tahawwur Rana stayed at Mumbai hotel days before 26/11 terror attacks: Mumbai police in chargesheet
In the supplementary chargesheet filed against Pakistani-origin Canadian businessman Tahawwur Rana in the 26/11 Mumbai terror attacks case, the city police have mentioned that he stayed for two days at a hotel in suburban Powai till November 21, 2008, days before the attacks, an official said.
The Mumbai police's crime branch on Monday submitted the over 400-page chargesheet, the fourth in the case so far, before a special court hearing the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act (UAPA) cases.
Rana, currently under detention in the United States, faces multiple charges for his role in the Mumbai attacks and is known to be associated with Pakistani-American terrorist David Coleman Headley, one of the main conspirators of the 26/11 strikes. The chargesheet mentions that Tahawwur Hussain Rana came to India on November 11, 2008 and stayed in the country till November 21. He spent two of these days at the Renaissance Hotel in Powai, a senior official of the Mumbai police's crime branch said on Tuesday.
Rabi season: Govt aims 60% of wheat area under climate resilient varieties
Ahead of rabi sowing from next month, the Centre on Tuesday said it targets to bring 60 per cent of the total wheat area of 30 million hectare under the climate-resistant varieties amid strong El Nino conditions.
Despite the challenges of climate change, the Union Agriculture Ministry has kept a target of achieving a record wheat output of 114 million tonne in the 2023-24 rabi season against the actual output of 112.74 million tonne in the year-ago period.
Sowing of wheat, the main rabi (winter) crop, begins in October, while harvesting starts in March/April.
Reports of TB medicine shortages misleading: Health ministry
The Ministry of Health and Family Welfare has issued a statement refuting recent media reports that suggest a shortage of anti-Tuberculosis (TB) drugs in India and question the efficacy of these drugs under the National TB Elimination Programme (NTEP).
The ministry has labelled these reports as vague and ill-informed, lacking specific information about the availability of anti-TB medicines in stock, read the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare press release.
Under the National TB Elimination Programme (NTEP), the treatment for drug-sensitive tuberculosis involves a regimen of four drugs available as 4 FDC (Isoniazid, Rifampicin, Ethambutol, and Pyrazinamide) for two months, followed by three drugs available as 3 FDC (Isoniazid, Rifampicin, and Ethambutol) for an additional two months.
Medical negligence case: Another hospital in UP's Amethi loses licence
The licence of a private hospital here has been suspended for alleged negligence which led to the death of a pregnant woman, officials said here on Tuesday.
The action against the Janta Hospital comes day after the licence of the Sanjay Gandhi Hospital here was suspended following the death of a 22-year-old woman at the facility.
Officials said OPD services of the Janta Hospital have also been stopped since Monday evening.
ED tells SC it will not summon Kavitha in Delhi excise case till Nov 20
The Enforcement Directorate on Tuesday told the Supreme Court that the probe agency will not summon BRS leader K Kavitha in the Delhi excise policy case till the court hears her plea on November 20.
A bench of Justices Sanjay Kishan Kaul and Sudhanshu Dhulia told Additional Solicitor General SV Raju, appearing for the Enforcement Directorate, "Don't call her in the meantime."
Raju assured the bench that Kavitha will not be called for questioning till November 20.

Lakhimpur Kheri violence case: Supreme Court allows Ashish Mishra to meet ailing mother with condition
The Supreme Court on Tuesday granted permission to Ashish Mishra to visit Delhi to take care of his ailing mother with condition not to interact with the media relating to the subjudice Lakhimpur Kheri violence case, among others.
A bench of justices Surya Kant and Dipankar Datta modified its earlier order granting interim bail to Ashish Mishra with conditions not to visit Delhi NCT.
On Tuesday, the top court lifted the stay on the condition that Ashish Mishra should not enter the Delhi NCT, however, directed him not to participate in any public function or address media in connection with the case. The court extends its interim bail till further order.

People were welcoming Vande Bharat train at stations, not me: Union Minister V Muraleedharan
Union Minister V Muraleedharan on Tuesday rejected the Congress' allegations that the inaugural run of Kerala's second Vande Bharat Express had turned into his own political campaign, saying people were welcoming the train at the stations and not him.
The Union Minister of State for External Affairs was responding to the allegations by Congress MP K Muraleedharan, who on Monday had said the train was stopped at the stations for more than the mandated time to enable him to accept the greetings of the BJP workers and supporters who had turned up there.
The Congress MP had also said the executive coach of the train had turned into a BJP party office as many party supporters got passes, the same as those given to MPs, to board it.
