Attorney-General for India, R Venkataramani while defending the validity of Electoral Bonds, which facilitate anonymous donations to political parties, has told the Supreme Court that citizens do not have the fundamental right to be informed about the sources of political funding. Attorney General Venkataramani, in a four-page written submission, emphasised that the Electoral Bonds scheme extends the benefit of confidentiality to the contributor.

Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Y S Jagan Mohan Reddy on Monday visited the train accident victims at the Vizianagaram Government General Hospital and enquired about their treatment and facilities. At least 14 persons died and 50 were injured when Palasa Passenger hit the Rayagada Passenger train from behind on the Howrah-Chennai line at Kantakapalli, about 40 km from Visakhapatnam, causing three coaches to derail.

Hundreds of ASHA workers gathered at Delhi's Jantar Mantar on Monday and demanded a hike in their remuneration to match the minimum wages. The Cabinet Office Briefing Rooms A (COBRA) meeting attended by UK Home Secretary Suella Braverman and counterterrorism officials follows another weekend of thousands of people protesting against the conflict in the Middle East, resulting in nine arrests and five being charged with public order offences including for racially aggravated crimes.
Citizens don't have right to know source of political funds: AG to SC on electoral bond scheme
Holding that the electoral bond scheme for political funding of parties contributes to clean money, Attorney General R Venkataramani has told the Supreme Court that citizens do not have the right to information under Article 19(1)(a) of the Constitution regarding the source of funds.
In a statement filed before the top court, Venkataramani said there can be no general right to know "anything and everything" without being subjected to reasonable restrictions.
