Merging with Fincare Small Finance Bank will help AU Small Finance Bank enter the micro lending segment and also ramp up the presence in southern India, a top official said on Monday.

In a significant development in the small finance banking sector, Fincare is poised to amalgamate into AU Small Finance Bank (AU SFB), with the merger slated to take effect from February 1, 2024, subject to requisite approvals.

Chhattisgarh assembly polls: CM Baghel files nomination from Patan seat

Chhattisgarh Chief Minister Bhupesh Baghel on Monday filed nomination from his traditional seat Patan in Durg district for the assembly polls scheduled next month and expressed confidence that the Congress will retain power in the state.

The 62-year-old CM posted pictures on his X handle of filing the nomination papers at Durg collectorate.

Chhattisgarh assembly speaker Charan Das Mahant and state Home Minister Tamradhwaj Sahu were seen accompanying him while filing the nomination.

UP man shot dead by terrorists in J-K's Pulwama district

A man from Uttar Pradesh died of injuries after being shot at by terrorists in Jammu and Kashmir's Pulwama district on Monday, officials said.

Mukesh Singh was shot at in Rajpora area of Pulwama district around 12.45 pm, they said.

This was the second terror attack in the Kashmir Valley in the past 24 hours. Militants had shot at and critically injured a police officer in Eidgah area of Srinagar.

Steel producer Goodluck India Q2 PAT grows 70% to Rs 34 cr

Specialty steel producer Goodluck India has posted a 70 per cent rise in its profit after (PAT) to Rs 34.70 crore during the quarter ended September 30, helped by increased income.

It had clocked a PAT of Rs 20.36 crore during the July-September period of the preceding 2022-23 fiscal, the company said in a statement on Monday.

The company's total income increased to Rs 887.75 crore, up 13 per cent over Rs 783.08 crore in the same quarter of the previous financial year.

Intergovt coop essential to crack masterminds behind smuggling network: FM Sitharaman

Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman on Monday stressed on the need for intergovernmental cooperation to crack the masterminds behind smuggling networks and take steps to deter illicit trade.

Speaking at the Global Conference on Cooperation in Enforcement Matters organised by the Directorate of Revenue Intelligence, Sitharaman said that customs authorities should share information among themselves to curb the network of illicit trade and efforts should be made to ensure that information shared is "actionable".

Rumble strips to be installed every 5 km on Samruddhi Expressway to keep motorists alert

In light of the recent accidents on the Nagpur-Mumbai Samruddhi Expressway, rumble strips will be installed every 5 km on the operational stretch and sculptures will be erected along the carriageway to keep motorists alert, an official said on Monday.

As many as 3,500 accidents have been reported on the expressway since its launch in December 2022, the official from the Maharashtra State Road Development Corporation Limited (MSRDC) said. Of the 701-km long expressway, the stretch between Nagpur to Bharvir (582 km) is operational, and nearly 49 lakh vehicles have travelled on it till September since the launch, he said.

Mamata Banerjee demands immediate inquiry into Andhra train accident

West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee has called for an immediate inquiry into the train derailment in Andhra Pradesh, contending that such rail accidents have become an unfortunate and repetitive trope.

Fourteen people were killed and at least 50 injured, when the Palasa Passenger train collided with the Rayagada Passenger train at Kantakapalli on the Howrah-Chennai line in Vizianagaram district on Sunday, causing three coaches to derail.

"Another disastrous rail collision, this time in Vizianagaram district in Andhra Pradesh, involving two passenger trains, and causing until now at least 8 deaths and injury of at least 25 more," Banerjee said on X late on Sunday.

Reacting to Rahul Gandhi's statement that if voted to power again, Congress will provide free education from KG to PG, Chhattisgarh Deputy Chief Minister TS Singh Deo said that the party is moving forward with a vision. At a public rally in poll-bound Chhattisgarh, Rahul Gandhi had said that the government would provide free education from KG to post-graduation in government institutions to students if voted again in power.

TS Singh Deo while speaking to ANI said "The Congress party is moving forward with a vision in Chhattisgarh. You saw that important announcements were made-' KG to PG' is a big announcement in which there is provision of free education from school to college in government schools and colleges. For landless families who were getting Rs 7,000 per year, they will get Rs 10,000. Some big announcements were made by Rahul Gandhi."

Rajasthan CM's son Vaibhav Gehlot appears before ED in Delhi

Rajasthan Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot's son Vaibhav Gehlot on Monday appeared before the Enforcement Directorate in Delhi for questioning in a foreign exchange violation case.

The federal agency had issued summons to Vaibhav Gehlot to appear before the investigating officer of the case, at its headquarters on A P J Abdul Kalam road, under the provisions of the Foreign Exchange Management Act (FEMA). The summons are linked to recent ED raids against Rajasthan based hospitality group Triton Hotels & Resorts Pvt. Ltd., Vardha Enterprises Pvt. Ltd. and its directors and promoters Shiv Shankar Sharma, Rattan Kant Sharma and others.

DMK seeks appointment from External Affairs Minister to address plight of arrested fishermen

DMK MP TR Baalu on Wednesday sought an appointment from Minister of External Affairs S Jaishankar along with kith and kin of fishermen arrested by Sri Lankan security forces on October 28 at mid-sea while fishing in Indian waters to draw attention to their plight.

In a letter dated October 30 MP TR Baalu said, "As per the instruction given by my leader M K Stalin, Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu, I request you to kindly extend an appointment to meet you on October 31 to me and the kith and kin of fishermen of Rameshwaram whose breadwinners were arrested by the Sri Lankan security forces on October 28 at mid-sea while fishing in Indian waters."

Three killed during Jenin raids by Israeli forces, including Islamic Jihad terrorist

At least three people, including an Islamic Jihad terrorist, were killed by Israeli forces during the raids in the West Bank city of Jenin, Times of Israel reported on Monday.

It reported citing the Palestinian WAFA news site that a third person was killed by Israeli fire in Jenin, amid reports of heavy fighting in the West Bank city. The deceased has been identified as Wiam Hanoun, who is the founder of the Islamic Jihad offshoot Jenin Brigade, as per Times of Israel.

20 injured, several arrested after Russia's Dagestan airport stormed by protesters

More than 20 people were injured when protesters stormed a Russian Makhachkala airport in Dagestan, including police and civilians, TASS reported.

According to the local Ministry of Health, ten people are in hospitals, with two of them in critical condition. "Doctors from republican hospitals are treating ten injured in the incident at Makhachkala airport. There are moderate to severe injuries among both police officers and civilians. Two people are in critical condition. Doctors are doing everything they can to save their patients' lives. Over ten more people with minor injuries sought outpatient medical care," TASS quoted the Russian Health Ministry

Modi, Hasina to jointly inaugurate cross-border rail project on Wednesday

Prime Minister Narendra Modi and his Bangladesh counterpart Sheikh Hasina will jointly inaugurate a key cross-border railway project on Wednesday, officials said.

The prime ministers of the two neighbouring countries will launch the Agartala-Akhaura Cross Border Rail Link Project at 11 am in a virtual ceremony, they said. The 15-km rail link (5 km in India and 10 km in Bangladesh) will boost cross-border trade and significantly reduce the travel time between Agartala and Kolkata via Dhaka, the officials said.
