Arvind Kejriwal thanks Congress for support on Delhi Services Bill

Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal has written to Congress chief Mallikarjun Kharge and MP Rahul Gandhi expressing his gratitude "on behalf of the people of Delhi" for voting against the Services Bill.

Parliament had on Monday passed the Government of National Capital Territory of Delhi (Amendment) Bill, 2023, that gives the central government control over bureaucrats in the Delhi government, with the Rajya Sabha approving it with 131 votes in favour and 102 against.

Death toll in recent Beijing flooding rises to 33, with 18 still missing

The death toll in recent flooding in China's capital rose to 33, including five rescuers, and another 18 people remain missing, officials said Wednesday, as much of the country's north remains threatened by unusually heavy rainfall.

Days of heavy rain hit areas in the city's mountainous western outskirts especially hard, causing the collapse of 59,000 homes, damage to almost 150,000 others and flooding of more than 15,000 hectares (37,000 acres) of cropland, according to the city government

Rahul Gandhi to visit Wayanad on Aug 12 for first time after being reinstated as Lok Sabha MP

Congress leader Rahul Gandhi, whose Lok Sabha membership has been restored days ago, will be visiting his parliamentary constituency in Kerala's Wayanad on August 12, said Kerala Pradesh Congress Committee Working president VT Siddique on Tuesday.

"Rahul Gandhi will be coming to Wayanad on August 12. We are going to arrange a warm reception for him and the preparations have already started. There is a district Congress Committee meeting tomorrow. Rahul Gandhi will be present for her on August 12 and 13," said VT Siddique.

UP: Yogi govt goes strict on officials not responding to calls of public representatives

The Uttar Pradesh government, led by Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, has issued an order to the officers of all the departments to pick up the calls of the public representatives or call them back later with a message if they are not able to pick up the call under any special circumstances, an official release from the state government said on Wednesday.

Officials said that the government has given a strong message to the officers who do not pick up the calls of public representatives (Members of Parliament and Legislature) and ordered them to follow the courtesy and permissible protocol towards the members of Parliament and Legislature.

Russia shot down two combat drones headed for capital: Moscow mayor

Russian air defence system has shot down two combat drones headed for the capital, Moscow Mayor Sergey Sobyanin said and added that no injuries have been informed, TASS News Agency reported.
 
Sobyanin, on his Telegram channel, said, "Two combat drones have attempted to fly to the city. Both were shot down by air defence systems, one in the Domodedovo area, and another one in the vicinity of Minskoye Highway. No injuries have been reported."

Chief Minister Yogi Adityanth on Tuesday said the 77th anniversary of the country's independence will be celebrated in Uttar Pradesh by saluting the soil and worshipping the heroes ('Mitti ko naman,veeron ka vandan').
 
According to an official statement, the independence day celebrations in the state will kick off on Wednesday and will continue till August 15. The state government is planning to organise many events in villages, cities and the state capital, Lucknow.

Tripura CM claims Rohingyas using state as corridor for passage elsewhere

Chief Minister Manik Saha on Tuesday chaired a review meeting on 'Law and Order' with the top officials of the police department, directing them to make the state 'mafia-free'.
 
The CM claimed that the Rohingyas were using Tripura as a corridor to reach other states."We had a detailed discussion on why and how Rohingyas are entering Tripura. During my visit to Unakoti district, I observed that the barbed wire fencing (on the Bangladesh border) has been destroyed due to river erosion caused by floods. I also spoke to the villagers about it."
