"This day reminds us…": Amit Shah extends wishes to countrymen on 77th Independence Day

Union Home Minister Amit Shah extended warm wishes to the country on the occasion of Independence Day while paying his tributes to the heroes of India's freedom struggle.

Taking to his official handle on the social media platform X, formerly Twitter, the Union Minister posted in Hindi, "I wish a very happy Independence Day to all my fellow countrymen. I bow to all the freedom fighters who got us independence."

He also called on people across communities to contribute to the nation's unity and prosperity in the 'Amit Kaal' (golden era).

"This day also reminds us of our duties towards building a golden India that our freedom fighters dreamt of. Let's take a solemn pledge to give our best to contribute to the country's unity and prosperity in this golden era (Amrit Kaal)," the Union Home Minister added in his tweet.

Google doodle celebrates textile heritage of India on 77th Independence Day

Celebrating the rich and diverse textile legacy of India, search giant Google has come up with a special doodle depicting a digital tapestry of interwoven fabrics to mark the country's 77th Independence Day.

Illustrated by New Delhi-based artist Namrata Kumar, the artwork has drawn inspiration from a range of textiles that India offers, weaving the varied swatches into a vibrant story of India.

In a post on the Google doodle portal, the internet behemoth shared the vision and inspiration of the artist in coming up with the commemorative artwork.

The doodle depicts 'swatches' of weaves drawn from Kutch embroidery of Gujarat to fine ikat' work of Odisha and Pashmina kani' woven textile of Jammu and Kashmir to Kasavu' weave of Kerala, covering regions across the country, placed next to each other in a textile grid of sorts, with 'GOOGLE' depicted in the centre with embroidered letters.

Artist Kumar on Google's portal said she "researched and identified the diverse textile craft forms present in India".

US extends wishes to India on its 77th Independence Day

US Secretary of State Antony Blinken has extended wishes to the people of India on its 77th Independence Day. He stated that India and US have a "strong bond" as the two nations work together for a world that is open, prosperous, secure, stable and resilient.

"On behalf of the United States of America, we send our warmest wishes to the people of India as they commemorate 76 years of independence this August 15. On this momentous day, we reflect on the depth and breadth of our strategic partnership, and we celebrate the proud history of the Indian people, who are the key to the bright future we are building together," Antony Blinken said in a statement.

Antony Blinken noted that the relationship between India and US has grown "deeper" and it has become "more expansive than ever." He said that the US stands with India in the shared commitment to tackle the most pressing challenges to ensure the peace and prosperity of people.

Modi will deliver his 10th consecutive Independence Day address on Tuesday at the historic Red Fort here. "Best wishes on Independence Day. We pay homage to our great freedom fighters and reaffirm our commitment to fulfilling their vision. Jai Hind!" the prime minister said on X, formerly known as Twitter.
 
Multi-layer security is in place across Delhi on Tuesday, with more than 10,000 personnel manning the area in and around the historic Red Fort from where Prime Minister Narendra Modi will address the nation on its 77th Independence Day, police said. Around 1,000 cameras with facial recognition and video analytic systems have been installed in and around the Mughal-era fort and at other strategic locations to ensure security and monitor VVIP movements, they said. Traffic has also been restricted near the Red Fort till the end of the celebrations.
