I-T dept intensifies crackdown on a liquor distillery group in Odisha
A day after Prime Minister Narendra Modi assured people that "money looted from the public will be returned", the Income Tax (I-T) Department on Saturday intensified its crackdown on a liquor distillery group in Odisha. After recovering around Rs 225 crore till Friday, the I-T sleuths seized another 20 bagloads of cash from the house of a countrymade liquor manufacturer in Sudapara area of Bolangir district on Saturday. The amount of money recovered from Sudapara is being counted, an official said, adding it is expected to be over Rs 50 crore.
Newly-elected MLAs take oath as maiden session of Telangana Assembly begins
The first session of the Third Telangana Assembly began here on Saturday and the oath taking process of the newly-elected MLAs is underway. Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy was the first to take oath, followed by deputy Chief Minister Mallu Bhatti Vikramarka. AIMIM MLA Akbaruddin Owaisi presided over the proceedings as the pro-tem Speaker.

India records 148 new COVID-19 cases
India saw a single-day rise of 148 new COVID-19 infections, while the active cases have increased to 808, according to Union Health Ministry data updated on Saturday. The country's COVID-19 case tally stands at 4.50 crore (4,50,02,889) and the death toll at 5,33,306, the data updated at 8 am stated. The number of people who have recuperated from the disease has increased to 4,44,68,775, and the national recovery rate stands at 98.81 per cent, it stated.

Amit Shah to chair 26th meeting of Eastern Zonal Council in Bihar on Sunday
Union Home Minister Amit Shah will chair the 26th meeting of the Eastern Zonal Council in Bihar's capital on Sunday, the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) said on Saturday. The Eastern Zonal Council comprises the states of Bihar, West Bengal, Odisha and Jharkhand. The meeting is being organized by the Inter-State Council Secretariat under the MHA in collaboration with the government of Bihar. "The 26th meeting of the Eastern Zonal Council will be attended by the Chief Ministers of the member states along with two senior ministers from each state. The Chief Secretaries and other senior officers of the state governments and senior officers of the Central government will also participate in the meeting," the MHA said in a statement.
Can't compare India & nations with high per capita emissions: European Parl
Clubbing India with emitters like China and the US is completely unacceptable as its per capita emissions are "very low", a senior official of the European Parliament said on Saturday. Talking to PTI at the UN climate talks here, Peter Liese, a German politician and a member of the European Parliament, emphasised: "Indian people should be able to own a car when people in Germany own two cars." There have been concerted attempts to club India with major emitters like the US at climate negotiations despite its low per capita emissions.

Russian President Vladimir Putin has lavished praise on Prime Minister Narendra Modi for his tough stance on defending India's national interests without being "intimidated" by any pressure and said the policy pursued by him is the "main guarantor" of the progressively developing bilateral ties. The Russian leader said he "cannot imagine that Modi could be frightened, intimidated or forced to take any actions, steps, decisions that would be at variance with the national interests of India and the Indian people".

AIMIM MLA Akbaruddin Owaisi took oath taken oath as Protem Speaker of the Telangana Legislative Assembly in Raj Bhawan, Hyderabad on Saturday. Anti-collision system Kavach deployed on 1,465 route km, 139 locomotives
The ambitious automatic train protection (ATP) system, Kavach, has so far been deployed on 1465 route km and 139 locomotives (including Electric Multiple Unit rakes) on South Central Railway sections, as per a government release. The sections include Lingamapalli - Vikarabad - Wadi and Vikarabad - Bidar section (265 Rkm), Manmad-Mudkhed-Dhone-Guntkal section (959Rkm) and Bidar-Parbhani section (241Rkm).
