Two suspects in Baba Siddique murder from same UP village

Two youths involved in the killing of NCP leader Baba Siddique are from the same village in Bahraich district of Uttar Pradesh. Both of them were from regular families and had no criminal history, police said on Sunday. Baba Siddique (66), a former Maharashtra minister, was shot dead by three assailants in Mumbai on Saturday night.

China's premier Qiang talks trade in Vietnam despite differences over South China Sea

China agreed Sunday to assist Vietnam on cross-border railway development and take steps to expand agricultural imports from its smaller neighbour, Vietnam's official media said. Premier Li Qiang, on an official visit to Vietnam, pledged that China would further open its market to high-quality fruits, seafood and other Vietnamese products, a state media report said.

Over 1,300 kg illegal firecrackers seized in Delhi, three arrested

The Delhi Police has arrested three people and seized more than 1,300 kilograms of illegal firecrackers from several areas of the national capital, officials said on Sunday. They were identified as Manoj Kumar, Sanjay Atri and Vipin Kumar. The officials said Manoj Kumar had been involved in selling banned crackers since the Covid-induced lockdowns and Atri supplied the crackers.

Israeli airstrikes kill family of eight in Gaza, destroy century-old market in Lebanon

An Israeli strike on the central Gaza Strip killed a family of eight, Palestinian medical officials said Sunday, as Israeli forces battled Palestinian militants in the territory's north and airstrikes destroyed a century-old market in southern Lebanon. The strike in Gaza late Saturday hit a home in the Nuseirat refugee camp, killing parents and their six children, who ranged in age from 8 to 23, according to the Al-Aqsa Martyrs Hospital in nearby Deir al-Balah, where the bodies were taken.

Family of Ex-DU prof Saibaba to donate his body to govt medical college

The family members of former Delhi University professor G N Saibaba, on Sunday said his body will be donated to the government medical college here, as per his wish.
 
They said his mortal remains would be handed over to the state-run Gandhi Medical College here on October 14.
 
Saibaba (58) died at a state-run hospital here due to post-operative complications, seven months after he was acquitted in an alleged Maoist links case.

Farmers block roads, squat on rail tracks to protest tardy paddy purchase in Punjab

Punjab farmers blocked roads and squatted on rail tracks across the state on Sunday, protesting against the slow procurement of paddy during the ongoing Kharif marketing season. The Samyukta Kisan Morcha called for a statewide road blockade from 12 to 3 p.m., while the Bharti Kisan Union (Ekta Ugrahan) announced a three-hour 'rail roko' protest.
