Heavy rains trigger landslides in J-K's Kathua, houses damaged, 5 dead

Five people, including three children, were killed after heavy rains triggered landslides and left several houses damaged in Kathua district of Jammu and Kashmir on Wednesday, officials said. Deputy Commissioner, Kathua, Rakesh Minhas ordered an immediate ex-gratia relief of Rs 50,000 to the kin of the deceased. We have five confirmed deaths in rain-related incidents, while three others are still trapped under the debris of a collapsed house in Bani Tehsil, Minhas told PTI.

G20: EWG meeting begins in Indore to tackle global labour challenges

The fourth and final meeting of the Employment Working Group (EWG) of G20 began in Madhya Pradesh's Indore city on Wednesday, with an aim to find solutions to the current global challenges in the areas of labour, employment and social security of workers, officials said. The meeting will focus on finalisation of the Ministerial Declaration and Outcome Documents, and consolidating efforts of the three previous meetings, they said. Eighty six delegates are participating in the fourth EWG meeting. The previous three EWG meetings were organised in Jodhpur, Guwahati and Geneva.

Curfew relaxation removed in all valley districts ahead of rally

The Manipur government has removed the daily curfew relaxation in the five valley districts from 5am to 6pm and clamped full curfew in view of a rally on Wednesday. The government's decision comes after Kwairamband Ima Keithel Joint Coordinating Committee for Peace, which represents the womenfolk of the main market in Imphal town, appealed to all to make the "Mothers' Protest" rally a roaring success.

The Supreme Court on Wednesday said that a three-judge bench will hear a batch of petitions pertaining to criminalisation of marital rape after constitution benches conclude hearing some listed pleas. We have to resolve the matters concerning marital rape, a bench comprising Chief Justice D Y Chandrachud and justices P S Narasimha and Manoj Misra said when senior advocate Indira Jaising mentioned the matter for hearing. Amid inclement weather conditions, the new track to Mata Vaishno Devi cave shrine was closed, according to a police official. However, the yatra is going on smoothly through the old track. "The new track to Shri Mata Vaishno Devi cave shrine has been closed due to inclement weather conditions while chopper service to the shrine is also suspended in Reasi district today. Yatra going on from the old track smoothly", said Amit Gupta, Senior Superintendent of Police. Vaishno Devi yatra is an annual yatra dedicated to the devotees of the goddess Durga.

India at UN urges immediate return to diplomacy in Ukraine conflict

India's permanent representative to the United Nations Ruchira Kamboj expressed India's deep concern about the conflict in Ukraine and urged for an immediate cessation of hostilities as well as a return to dialogue and diplomacy at United Nations General Assembly Annual Debate on Ukraine. She also emphasized that this is not an era of war. Mentioning the loss of lives and the misery for the people the conflict has resulted in, particularly for the women, children and elderly, India's permanent representative to the UN said, "India continues to remain concerned over the situation in Ukraine. With millions becoming homeless and forced to take shelter in neighbouring countries, reports of attacks on civilians and civilian infrastructure are indeed deeply worrying."
