Jaishankar said on Monday condoling the loss of lives in a massive landslide in the island nation. Over 2,000 people were killed in the landslide in Papua New Guinea on May 24, according to media reports from that country. "Deeply saddened by the loss of lives in Papua New Guinea following the recent landslide," Jaishankar said on 'X'.

Delhi HC asks ED to respond to AAP leader Satyender Jain's bail plea in money laundering case

The Delhi High Court today directed the Enforcement Directorate to respond to a plea by jailed former minister Satyendar Jain seeking default bail in a money laundering case. Justice Swarana Kanta Sharma issued notice to the ED and asked it to file a status report on the matter. The court also called for the nominal roll of Jain from the jail and listed the matter for further hearing on July 9

The Punjab and Haryana High Court on Tuesday acquitted Dera Sacha Sauda chief Gurmeet Ram Rahim and four others in the murder case of Dera manager Ranjit Singh. In 2021, a special Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) court found Ram Rahim and other accused in the case guilty of Singh's murder, sentencing them to life imprisonment.

Rajkot fire updates: Police arrests one more partner of TRP game zone

The Gujarat police have taken into custody one more partner of the Rajkot-based TRP game zone where a devastating fire last week killed 27 persons, an official said on Tuesday. Dhaval Thakkar, the proprietor of Dhaval Corporation, which ran the TRP game zone along with five partners of Raceway Enterprises, was arrested from Abu Road in neighbouring Rajasthan, Banaskantha Superintendent of Police Akshayraj Makwana said.

The Jharkhand High Court today aske the Enforcement Directorate (ED) to file a reply on the bail application moved by former chief minister Hemant Soren. Appearing on behalf of Soren, senior advocate Kapil Sibal pleaded that the JMM leader was a victim of political conspiracy.  Soren was arrested by the Enforcement Directorate on January 31 in connection with a money-laundering case linked to an alleged land scam.

Five dead, several missing as stone quarry collapses in Mizoram amid rains

Five people died and several others were missing as a stone quarry collapsed in Mizoram's Aizawl district amid heavy rains on Tuesday morning, police said. The incident happened around 6 am in an area between Melthum and Hlimen on the southern outskirts of the Aizawl town, they said. Five bodies have been recovered, while several others are still trapped under the debris, a police officer said.

Taiwan's Ministry of National Defence (MND), on Tuesday, identified a significant Chinese military presence as they track their aircraft and vessels operating around the nation. "Three PLA aircraft, 7 PLAN vessels, and 4 CCG vessels operating around Taiwan were detected up until 6 a.m. (UTC+8) today. 3 of the aircraft crossed the median line and entered our southwestern ADIZ. #ROCArmedForces have monitored the situation and responded accordingly," the ministry said in a post shared on X.

Maharashtra govt to not proceed with Manusmriti reference in school curriculum draft

The Maharashtra government will not go ahead with all the recommendations from the recently proposed Maharashtra State Curriculum Framework for School Education, said State Education Minister Deepak Kesarkar. At a press conference in Mumbai on Thursday, Kesarkar clarified that the inclusion of lines from Manusmriti as reference in one of the chapters in the draft had not received government's or the guiding committee’s nod before being made public.
