RG Kar impasse: Bengal govt invites junior doctors for meeting at Mamata's residence

The West Bengal government invited agitating junior doctors to Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee's residence at 6 pm on Saturday to hold a meeting to resolve the RG Kar impasse.
In a mail, written by Chief Secretary Manoj Pant, emphasised that 15 representatives of the junior doctors were invited to the meeting.
The development took place hours after the chief minister paid a surprise visit to them at their site of the demonstration outside 'Swasthya Bhavan', the health department headquarters.

Soldier injured as army foils infiltration bid in J-K's Rajouri

An army personnel was injured in an encounter with terrorists attempting to infiltrate across the Line of Control (LoC) in Rajouri district of Jammu and Kashmir on Saturday, security officials said.
 
The encounter occurred in the Kalal area of the Nowshera sector when army troops guarding the LoC intercepted a group of terrorists trying to infiltrate into this side, the officials said.
 
This was the second infiltration attempt by terrorists in Nowshera in the past week. Earlier on September 9, two heavily armed terrorists were killed near the LoC in the Laam area of this sector.
 
Army troops noticed some terrorists and challenged them, leading to a gunfight which continued for some time, the officials said, adding the terrorists fled into the nearby forest and a massive search operation is on to track down and neutralize them.

Delhi CM Arvind Kejriwal to address party workers at AAP HQ

Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal will address party workers at the new headquarters of the AAP on Sunday. Kejriwal was released on Friday from Tihar after the Supreme Court granted him bail in the excise policy linked corruption case. The AAP supremo had last addressed party workers on June 2 before surrendering at Tihar jail. He was earlier granted interim bail in May by the Supreme Court for campaigning in the Lok Sabha polls till June 2.

Agitating medics send mail to govt, express wish to hold talks with CM to resolve RG Kar impasse

Agitating junior doctors on Saturday sent a mail to the West Bengal government expressing their wish to hold talks with Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee to resolve the RG Kar impasse.
The mail was sent hours after the chief minister paid a surprise visit to them at their site of the demonstration outside 'Swasthya Bhavan', the health department headquarters.
"We are willing to hold a meeting with the chief minister anywhere and anytime to resolve the impasse. We welcome her visit to us this afternoon. This is a very positive move. We have sent a mail to the state government," one of the agitating doctors said.
He, however, did not clarify whether they are still sticking to their earlier demand for "live streaming " the entire meeting.
But, he said, "We want transparency."

156 roads including one NH closed in Himachal as rain continues to lash parts of state

A total of 156 roads including National Highway 5 (Hindustan-Tibet Road) were closed for vehicular movement in Himachal Pradesh on Saturday morning as rain continues to lash parts of the state, officials said.
 
Moderate rain continued in some parts of the state with Katula logging the highest rainfall of 78.5 mm, since Friday evening, the meteorological department said.
 
During this period Palampur recorded 68 mm rainfall, followed by 60 mm in Baijnath, 58.4 mm in Mandi, 56.4 mm in Guler, 53 mm in Dharamshala, 51.4 mm in Kufri, 50 mm in Shimla and Jogindernagar each, 48.6 mm in Naina Devi, 46.6 mm in Kangra, 46 mm in Nagrota Suriyanas, it said.
 
The National Highway 5 (Hindustan-Tibet Road) was closed at Malling Nallah in Kinnaur district following landslide and falling of shooting stones.
 
A maximum of 94 roads are closed in Shimla, 46 in Mandi, ten in Kangra, three in Kullu and one each in Bilapsur, Kinnaur and Sirmaur districts due to rains, landslide and flash floods as per the State Emergency Operation Centre (SEOC).

Nine suspected ISIS terrorists arrested in Pakistan's Punjab province

Law enforcement agencies have arrested nine suspected terrorists of ISIS and anti-Shia organisations in the Punjab province of Pakistan and foiled a major terror attack targeting important installations and religious places, police said on Saturday.
 
The Counter Terrorism Department (CTD) of Punjab police claimed that it conducted 71 intelligence-based operations in different districts of the province during which the nine terrorists were arrested with weapons, explosives, and other prohibited materials.
 
A spokesman for the CTD said the arrest of the nine terrorists belonging to ISIS (Daesh) and anti-Shia organisations -- Sipah Sahaba Pakistan (SSP) and Lashkar-e-Jhangvi (LeJ) from different areas of the province during this week were carried out during the intelligence-based operations in Rahim Yar Khan, Okara, Bahawalpur, Lahore, Rawalpindi, Faisalabad, and Mianwali.
 
The terrorists had planned to sabotage across the province and wanted to target important installations and other religious places.
 
A total of 4.8 kg explosives, two hand grenades, two IED bombs, 26 detonators, four pistols, bullets, and banned literature were recovered from their possession, the spokesperson said.
 
The police have registered nine cases against the arrested terrorists and shifted them to an unknown location for further investigation.

Assam: People protest against illegal migrant encroachment

Locals of the Sonapur Kachutali area in Assam's Kamrup (Metro) district staged a protest on Saturday in support of protecting tribal belt and block areas.
 
They demanded the eviction of people illegally occupying government land in the area, as well as protection for the indigenous people by the state government.
 
Locals have alleged that some Congress leaders brought a large number of illegal migrants for vote bank and settled them in government land of Sonapur tribal belt and block areas.
 
The local Muslim people here are supporting the government's eviction drive against illegal migrants.

Delhi Zoo adds rhino, tiger and pied hornbills

 rhinoceros, a Bengal tiger and a pair of pied hornbills were brought to the Delhi Zoo on Saturday as part of an exchange programme with Assam, officials said.
 
They will be ready for public exhibition at Delhi's National Zoological Park -- commonly called Delhi Zoo -- after a 21-day quarantine, they said.
 
Confirming the animals' arrival from Assam State Zoo-cum Botanical Garden, Zoo Director Sanjeet Kumar told PTI, "A male tiger, a male rhino, and a pair of pied hornbills arrived this morning. After a veterinary examination, all have been placed in quarantine."
 
The nine-member team that was tasked with bringing the tiger named Sultan and rhino named Dharmendra left Assam on September 11 and arrived on the Saturday.
 
"The zoo team departed for Assam in two trucks on September 4 to bring new animals to our zoo," a Delhi Zoo official told PTI.
 
"We used two trucks to minimise stress on the animals. Separate trucks were assigned for the tiger and rhino to avoid adding any additional strain during travel as travel itself is a major source of stress," range officer Saurabh Vashisht, who led the team, told PTI.
