Philippines to partner with US, India to construct digital public infrastructure
Philippines Parliament Speaker Ferdinand Martin G Romualdez on Saturday suggested that the country alongwith US, and India should partner to construct digital public infrastructure, according to the Philippines House of Representative press release.
"It is very important for the Philippines, India, and the US to lead in this digital public infrastructure initiative because nations have much to gain from this," he said following the Digital Public Infrastructure lecture at the International Monetary Fund headquarters in Washington.
He also had a brief chat with Nandan Nilekani, one of the founders of the Indian multinational information technology company Infosys.
Europe's most powerful nuclear reactor kicks off in Finland
Finland's much-delayed and costly new nuclear reactor, Europe's most powerful by production capacity, has completed a test phase lasting over a year and started regular output, boosting the Nordic country's electricity self-sufficiency significantly.
The Olkiluoto 3 reactor, which has 1,600-megawatt capacity, was connected into the Finnish national power grid in March 2022 and kicked off regular production on Sunday.
Operator Teollisuuden Voima, or TVO, tweeted that Olkiluoto 3 is now ready after a delay of 14 years from the original plan.
AAP holds protest in Amritsar against CBI summons to Kejriwal
The Aam Aadmi Party held a protest here on Sunday against the BJP-led Centre against the summoning of Delhi Chief Minister and party's convenor Arvind Kejriwal by the CBI in the excise policy case.
The protest was held at the Bhandari bridge and it was joined by state ministers including Kuldeep Singh Dhaliwal, Inderbir Singh Nijjar, MLAs Jeevan Jyot Kaur, Ajay Gupta and Jasbir Singh Sandhu along with their supporters.
Carrying placards, the protesters shouted slogans against the Centre.

McLeod-IL&FS settlement likely in two weeks
Bulk tea major McLeod Russel India Ltd and IL&FS are currently engaged in negotiations towards an out-of-court settlement, which is expected to be reached within the next two weeks.
The Brij Mohan Khaitan group company is attempting to avoid insolvency through an out-of-court settlement.
IL&FS Infra Asset Management is an asset management company which manages IL&FS Infrastructure Debt Fund and IIDF is a financial creditor of McLeod.

India-US trade rose by 8% in 2022-23, fell 1.5% with China
Bilateral trade between India and the US rose by almost 8 per cent to $128.55 billion in 2022-23, compared to $119.5 billion in 2021-22.
The growth in bilateral trade between the two countries is significant, considering the fact that in 2020-21, it was only $80.51 billion, according to Commerce Ministry data.
Exports to the US rose by 2.81 per cent to $78.31 billion in 2022-23 as against $76.18 billion in 2021-22, while imports grew by about 16 per cent to $50.24 billion.
AAP calls emergency meet in Delhi fearing Kejriwal's arrest during CBI questioning
Fearing that Central Bureau of Investigation may arrest Arvind Kejriwal as the questioning is underway at the CBI headquarters in the national capital, Aam Aadmi Party Delhi convenor Gopal Rai has called a meeting at the party office at 5 pm, sources said on Sunday. The office bearers, district president, national secretaries and other leaders of the party have been asked to join the meeting.
This comes as Arvind Kejriwal's questioning in the Delhi Excise policy case is underway at the CBI headquarters.
Earlier, AAP leaders including Raghav Chadha, Sanjay Singh and others were detained by the Delhi Police for protesting near the CBI office in the national capital on Sunday.

UP govt forms 3-member judicial commission to probe into killing of Atiq Ahmad, brother
The Uttar Pradesh government on Sunday constituted a three-member judicial commission to probe into the killing of gangster-politician Atiq Ahmad and his brother Khalid Azeem alias Ashraf.
The commission will be headed by high court judge (retired) Arvind Kumar Tripathi, and retired judge Brijesh Kumar Soni and former DGP Subesh Kumar Singh will be its members, officials said here.
The commission will have to submit its report to the government within two months, they said, adding the state home department has constituted the commission under Commission of Inquiry Act, 1952. Both Ahmad and Ashraf were shot dead in Prayagraj on Saturday night.

Congress leader Rahul Gandhi on Saturday said his party would be voted to power in the coming Assembly elections in Karnataka, and the new government would formally approve its poll promises in the first cabinet meeting itself.
The poll 'guarantees' announced by the party are: Gruha Jyothi' offering 200 units of free electricity every month to all, Gruha Lakshmi' giving Rs 2,000 per month to every woman head of the family, Anna Bhagya' offering 10 kg rice to each member of a BPL family every month and Yuva Nidhi' where Rs 3,000 will per month be given to unemployed graduates and Rs 1,500 per month to diploma holders for two years.
These schemes will be implemented on the first day in the first cabinet meeting itself, Gandhi said during the 'Jai Bharat' rally here in the run-up to the May 10 elections.

Ex-CM Jagadish Shettar quits as MLA, jolt to BJP in poll-bound Karnataka
Disgruntled former Chief Minister Jagadish Shettar resigned as MLA on Sunday after expressing anguish over denial of ticket to contest in the May 10 Karnataka Assembly elections, and launched an attack on the BJP, saying those who had built the party are being thrown out of their own house'.
Shortly after the 67-year-old six-time MLA, who had also said he would quit the party, tendered his resignation, Karnataka BJP strongman B S Yediyurappa, slammed him for deserting the J P Nadda-led outfit, and said people would not pardon him for his move.
Shettar, an influential Lingayat leader from north Karnataka, and sitting MLA from Hubli-Dharwad Central, said some people with their vested interests had hatched a conspiracy to not field him this time.
