Maharashtra logs 650 new Covid-19 cases in a day

<p>
	Maharashtra on Sunday recorded 650 fresh coronavirus infections and two fatalities, taking the tally of cases to 81,55,839 and the toll to 1,48,479, the state health department said.</p>
<p>
	A day before, the state had recorded 660 cases and two deaths due to COVID-19.</p>
<p>
	Mumbai recorded 182 fresh cases. The two fresh fatalities in the state were reported from Mumbai city and Thane city, a health official said. The case fatality rate in the state now stands at 1.82 per cent.</p>

Congress must aim for 150 seats or else corrupt BJP will 'steal' next govt in Karnataka: Rahul Gandhi

Delhi reports 1,634 fresh coronavirus cases in the last 24 hours

Unexploded shells will be cleared from Kargil in time-bound manner: Ladakh LG

	Soon after a boy was killed when an unexploded shell went off in Kargil, Ladakh Lt Governor Brig B D Mishra (retd) said on Sunday all such shells would be cleared from the district in a time-bound manner.</p>

	Mishra gave the assurance to the people after they raised the issue of the presence of a large number of unexploded shells from the army firing range and 1999 Kargil war in Kurbathang and other areas posing threat to the local residents.</p>

Kejriwal questioned for nearly nine hours by CBI in Delhi excise policy case

	Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal was questioned by the CBI on Sunday for nearly nine hours in connection with the excise policy scam case, officials said.</p>
<p>
	The AAP chief, who arrived at the heavily fortified agency headquarters at around 11 am in his official black SUV, was taken to the first-floor office of the Anti Corruption Branch where he was quizzed by the investigation team, they said.</p>
<p>
	Kejriwal waved to the waiting mediapersons as he left the building at around 8.30 pm after nearly nine hours of questioning. The chief minister had a lunch break during the day, they said.</p>

Delhi Police detains 1,350 AAP workers, leaders: Officials

	The Delhi Police on Sunday detained as many as 1,350 AAP workers and leaders who were staging protest against the questionning of Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) in connection with alleged irregularities in Delhi Excise Policy 2021-2022, officials said.</p>
<p>
	The questioning of Kejriwal in the matter is currently underway, and the AAP has claimed that around 1,500 party workers have been detained by the police.</p>
<p>
	To avoid clashes with AAP workers, the Delhi Police imposed Section 144 outside the CBI&#39;s headquarters on the day.</p>

<p>
	Varanasi is all set to host the G20 events for three days from Monday and showcase Uttar Pradesh&#39;s rich cultural heritage to the world, officials said.</p>
<p>
	Representatives of 20 leading countries of the world and delegates from other partner countries will participate in the meeting of the Agriculture Working Group which will take place from April 17 to 19 in the city of light&#39;, they said.</p>

Bihar hooch tragedy: 80 held, 11 police personnel suspended

	Police have arrested 80 people from East Champaran district of dry Bihar for allegedly being involved in spurious liquor trade, following a suspected hooch tragedy that claimed 14 lives so far in Motihari, officials said on Sunday.</p>
<p>
	The district administration suspended 11 police personnel, including a sub-inspector and an assistant sub-inspector, who were posted as in-charge of anti-liquor task force (ALTF) at Areraj and Sadar sub-divisions of Motihari respectively, on the charge of dereliction of duties, according to an official statement.</p>
<p>
	Nine &#39;chowkidars&#39; posted at different villages of Motihari were among the suspended policemen, it said.</p>

AAP workers try to gherao CBI office in Jaipur, cops foil attempt

	AAP workers on Sunday tried to gherao the CBI office here on Sunday as they protested against the Centre over the probe agency&#39;s questioning of Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal in the excise policy case, but the police thwarted their attempt.</p>

	Later, the party workers blocked the Tonk Road at the Narayan Singh Circle and raised slogans against the Prime Minister Narendra Modi-led central government.</p>

Europe's most powerful nuclear reactor kicks off in Finland

	Finland&#39;s much-delayed and costly new nuclear reactor, Europe&#39;s most powerful by production capacity, has completed a test phase lasting over a year and started regular output, boosting the Nordic country&#39;s electricity self-sufficiency significantly.</p>

	The Olkiluoto 3 reactor, which has 1,600-megawatt capacity, was connected into the Finnish national power grid in March 2022 and kicked off regular production on Sunday.</p>
<p>
	Operator Teollisuuden Voima, or TVO, tweeted that Olkiluoto 3 is now ready after a delay of 14 years from the original plan.</p>

India-US trade rose by 8% in 2022-23, fell 1.5% with China

<p>
	Bilateral trade between India and the US rose by almost 8 per cent to $128.55 billion in 2022-23, compared to $119.5 billion in 2021-22.</p>
<p>
	The growth in bilateral trade between the two countries is significant, considering the fact that in 2020-21, it was only $80.51 billion, according to Commerce Ministry data.</p>
<p>
	Exports to the US rose by 2.81 per cent to $78.31 billion in 2022-23 as against $76.18 billion in 2021-22, while imports grew by about 16 per cent to $50.24 billion.</p>

AAP calls emergency meet in Delhi fearing Kejriwal's arrest during CBI questioning

	Fearing that Central Bureau of Investigation may arrest Arvind Kejriwal as the questioning is underway at the CBI headquarters in the national capital, Aam Aadmi Party Delhi convenor Gopal Rai has called a meeting at the party office at 5 pm, sources said on Sunday. The office bearers, district president, national secretaries and other leaders of the party have been asked to join the meeting.</p>

	This comes as Arvind Kejriwal&#39;s questioning in the Delhi Excise policy case is underway at the CBI headquarters.</p>

UP govt forms 3-member judicial commission to probe into killing of Atiq Ahmad, brother

<p>
	The Uttar Pradesh government on Sunday constituted a three-member judicial commission to probe into the killing of gangster-politician Atiq Ahmad and his brother Khalid Azeem alias Ashraf.</p>
<p>
	The commission will be headed by high court judge (retired) Arvind Kumar Tripathi, and retired judge Brijesh Kumar Soni and former DGP Subesh Kumar Singh will be its members, officials said here.</p>
<p>
	The commission will have to submit its report to the government within two months, they said, adding the state home department has constituted the commission under Commission of Inquiry Act, 1952. Both Ahmad and Ashraf were shot dead in Prayagraj on Saturday night.</p>

Congress will come to power in Karnataka, approve poll promises in first Cabinet meet: Rahul Gandhi

	Congress leader Rahul Gandhi on Saturday said his party would be voted to power in the coming Assembly elections in Karnataka, and the new government would formally approve its poll promises in the first cabinet meeting itself.</p>

	The poll &#39;guarantees&#39; announced by the party are: Gruha Jyothi&#39; offering 200 units of free electricity every month to all, Gruha Lakshmi&#39; giving Rs 2,000 per month to every woman head of the family, Anna Bhagya&#39; offering 10 kg rice to each member of a BPL family every month and Yuva Nidhi&#39; where Rs 3,000 will per month be given to unemployed graduates and Rs 1,500 per month to diploma holders for two years.</p>

West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee on Sunday said all educational institutions in the state will remain closed next week in view of the &quot;severe&quot; heatwave conditions.

Ex-CM Jagadish Shettar quits as MLA, jolt to BJP in poll-bound Karnataka

	Disgruntled former Chief Minister Jagadish Shettar resigned as MLA on Sunday after expressing anguish over denial of ticket to contest in the May 10 Karnataka Assembly elections, and launched an attack on the BJP, saying those who had built the party are being thrown out of their own house&#39;.</p>
<p>
	Shortly after the 67-year-old six-time MLA, who had also said he would quit the party, tendered his resignation, Karnataka BJP strongman B S Yediyurappa, slammed him for deserting the J P Nadda-led outfit, and said people would not pardon him for his move.</p>
<p>
	Shettar, an influential Lingayat leader from north Karnataka, and sitting MLA from Hubli-Dharwad Central, said some people with their vested interests had hatched a conspiracy to not field him this time.</p>

Protest against CBI summons to Kejriwal: AAP says senior leaders detained by Delhi Police

<p>
	Several senior AAP leaders were on Sunday &quot;detained&quot; by the Delhi Police while they were staging a sit-in to protest against the summoning of Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal by the CBI in connection with the excise policy case.</p>
<p>
	The detainees included Sanjay Singh, Raghav Chadha, Saurabh Bharadwaj, Atishi, Kailash Gahlot, Adil Ahmad Khan, Pankaj Gupta and some ministers in the Punjab government.</p>
<p>
	Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann, who also joined the sit-in on Archbishop Road, had left the spot before the AAP leaders&#39; detention.</p>

	Congress leader Rahul Gandhi on Sunday launched a sharp attack on Prime Minister Narendra Modi by bringing up the Adani &quot;corruption&quot; issue in this Karnataka district headquarters town. India reports 10,093 Covid-19 cases, 23 deaths; active tally at 57,542

	India added 10,093 new coronavirus infections, while the active cases increased to 57,542, according to the Union Health Ministry data updated on Sunday.</p>

	The death toll has increased to 5,31,114 with 23 deaths.</p>

	While five deaths were reported from Delhi, three each were from Chattisgarh and Rajasthan, two each from Karnataka and Maharashtra, one each from Haryana, Odisha, Tamil Nadu and Uttarakhand and four reconciled by Kerala, the data updated at 8 am stated.</p>

	Vivekananda, the brother of late Andhra Pradesh chief minister Y S Rajasekhara Reddy and uncle of Jagan Reddy, was found dead at his residence in Pulivendula, on the night of March 15, 2019, weeks before the state assembly elections.</p>
