A day after presenting a white paper, which compared 10 years of UPA rule with that of the present NDA government, Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman said that big ticket corruptions during UPA tenure averaged one each year and disillusioned the common people. She further added that the NDA government's 10 years of dedicated efforts have put economy back on rails and corrected all misgovernance.
The Rajya Sabha passed the Constitution (Jammu and Kashmir) Scheduled Castes Order (Amendment) Bill, 2024. The Bill provides amendment in the the Constitution (Jammu and Kashmir) Scheduled Castes Order, 1956, ANI reported. Also, the upper house of the Parliament passed the Constitution (Jammu and Kashmir) Scheduled Tribes Order (Amendment) Bill, 2024 further to amend the Constitution (Jammu and Kashmir) Scheduled Tribes Order, 1989. Apart from the above, the Rajya Sabha also passed the Jammu and Kashmir Local Bodies Laws (Amendment) Bill, 2024. This Bill provides amendment in the Jammu and Kashmir Panchayati Raj Act, 1989 (IX of 1989), the Jammu and Kashmir Municipal Act, 2000 (XX of 2000) and Jammu and Kashmir Municipal Corporation Act, 2000 (XXI of 2000). Notably, all three Bills were earlier passed by Lok Sabha.
The Election Commission (EC) has announced that nearly 97 million people will be eligible to cast their votes in the upcoming Lok Sabha polls. The EC further said that over 20 million young electors in age group 18-29 have been added in voters list.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi has announced that former Prime Minister(s) of the India PV Narasimha Rao Garu, Charan Singh, Narasimha Rao, MS Swaminathan, MS Swaminathan will be being honoured with Bharat Ratna. As Pakistan completed its general elections, the widely expected result of a return to power for three-time premier Nawaz Sharif is looking less certain, according to a Bloomberg report. Election Results have been announced for only one of the 265 National Assembly seats being contested, and jailed former Prime Minister Imran Khan’s party, whose candidates have been forced to run as independents, is claiming a shock victory. However, it’s still too early to know if its assertions are correct.

BJP is preparing to talk about the alleged fiscal mismanagement under the Congress-led UPA government during its ten year rule from 2004-2014 in all states of the country. The party plans to portray the differences between its own and Congress government's fiscal policies, with an aim to highlight its achievements in the run to the general elections. President of Indian National Congress, Mallikarjun Kharge also released a 'Black Paper' on BJP's ten year rule on Thursday. Kharge said that BJP conspired to topple several state governments during its rule, weakening Indian democracy.
Pak elections: Nawaz Sharif says his govt would try to improve ties with neighbouring countries
In an indirect goodwill message to India, Pakistan's former premier Nawaz Sharif on Friday said that his government would try to improve relations with the neighbouring countries. Sharif's Pakistan Muslim League Nawaz (PML-N) technically emerged the single largest party in the National Assembly despite the fact that the number of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf supported independent candidates was higher than any political party. "We would improve ties with the world and with our neighbours and try to solve all issues with them (neighbours)," the 74-year-old former three-time premier said.
