Winter Session: Floor leaders of INDIA bloc demand statement on Parliament security breach

Floor leaders of the opposition's INDIA bloc held a meeting today ahead of the beginning of the 11th day of the ongoing Winter Session of Parliament. INDIA members met in the chamber of Rajya Sabha Leader of Opposition Mallikarjun Kharge to discuss a strategy to corner the Centre in both the upper and lower houses of the Parliament. Among the attendees were senior leaders like Farooq Abdullah, Jairam Ramesh, Ramgopal Yadav, Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury, and others.

Police officer sustains bullet injuries in encounter with Maoists in Jharkhand's Garhwa

A police station in-charge was injured during an encounter with Maoists in Jharkhand's Garhwa district today. The officer, Shankar Prasad Kushwaha, sustained bullet injuries in the gunfight with Jharkhand Jan Mukti Parishad (JJMP), a Maoist splinter group. The encounter took place at Dengura village, around 200 km from the Jharkhand capital Ranchi, at around 1 am, officials said. Garhwa Superintendent of Police Deepak Kumar Pandey said that the search operation is underway to catch the Maoists.

Eight people killed in Pune as pick-up vehicle collides with auto-rickshaw

Eight people were killed after a speeding pickup vehicle collided with an auto-rickshaw in Pune, Maharashtra. The accident took place at around 11.30 pm on Sunday under Otur police station limits on Kalyan-Ahmednagar Road. Seven persons from the auto-rickshaw and the pickup vehicle's driver were killed, the police said.

PM Modi to inaugurate 402 km section of Eastern Dedicated Freight Corridor today

Prime Minister Narendra Modi will dedicate the 402 km-long stretch of the new Deen Dayal Upadhyay Junction to New Bhaupur Junction of the Eastern Dedicated Freight Corridor (DFC) today. Built at a cost of Rs 10,903 crores, the stretch marks a crucial part of the Eastern Dedicated Freight Corridor. This section is situated on the Delhi-Howrah rail route, passing through districts such as Chandauli, Mirzapur, Prayagraj, Kaushambi, Fatehpur, Kanpur Nagar and Kanpur Dehat in Uttar Pradesh.

Pune candle unit fire: Death toll reaches 14, owner held after discharge from hospital

The death toll in Pune's candle manufacturing unit fire has reached 14 after two women succumbed to their injuries, a civic official said. The incident took place on December 8  in Pune's Pimpri Chinchwad area. So far, police has arrested Sharad Sutar, the owner of the fire-hit unit located at Talawade, after he was discharged from hospital. Sutar had also sustained injuries in the blaze.
