A Lashkar-e-Taiba backed terrorist was killed during security operations in South Kashmir’s Shopian today. “Acting on specific information regarding presence of terrorist in village Chotigam area of Shopian, a joint cordon and search operation was launched in the wee hours by Police, Army (34RR) and CRPF (178Bn) in the said area,” the state police said.

Union Cabinet approves Rs 4,797 crore for Prithvi scheme
The central government gave nod to "Prithvi Vigyan", an overarching initiative consisting of five on-going sub-schemes related to earth sciences, at a cost of Rs 4,797 crore over a five-year period from 2021-26. At a meeting chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, the union cabinet approved the proposal of the Ministry of Earth Sciences (MoES) to club the sub-schemes.

India's antitrust body is investigating domestic units of global delivery companies, such as Germany's DHL, U.S.-based United Parcel Service and FedEx, for alleged collusion on discounts and tariffs, documents, says media report. It is the latest such scrutiny for the logistics industry, some dating back to 2015, when France levied fines amounting to $735 million on 20 companies, including FedEx and DHL, for secretly colluding to increase prices.

The Union Home Ministry has ordered a CBI probe into supply of substandard medicines in Delhi government hospitals, as per media reports. In December 2023, Delhi Lt Governor V K Saxena had recommended a CBI inquiry into the matter to the Home ministry. "Welcome CBI probe into supply of substandard drugs in Delhi govt hospitals," AAP minister Saurabh Bharadwaj said today. The Minister further stated that he gave directions for audit of medicines but health secretary didn't follow directions. Bharadwaj, once again, called for the suspension of health secretary Deepak Kumar.

SC rejects plea against HC order dismissing PIL on Krishna Janmabhoomi
The Supreme Court today rejected a plea challenging an Allahabad High Court order that dismissed a PIL seeking direction to the Uttar Pradesh government to acquire the Krishna Jahmabhoomi Janmasthan at Mathura and hand it over to the Hindus for worshipping Lord Krishna. The bench said the petitioner had filed a PIL and that is why it was dismissed by the high court.
