SC summons CS, finance secy of 16 states for non-compliance of pay panel's report
Expressing strong displeasure over non-compliance of the SNJPC's recommendations, a bench of Chief Justice DY Chandrachud and justices JB Pardiwala and Manoj Misra said, "We know how to extract compliance now. If we just say that the chief secretary will be present if the affidavit is not filed then it will not be filed. "We are not sending them to jail but let them be here and then an affidavit will be submitted. Let they be personally present now," the bench said. Though seven opportunities have been granted to the states, it appears that full compliance has not been affected and several states are in default, it said.

Illegal online betting, gambling firms act as channels for money laundering and terror financing: Report
A report by Rashtriya Raksha Universty's The Security and Scientific Technical Research Association suggested the need for a registration mechanism to whitelist legitimate online real money gaming platforms that operate in compliance with laws of India. "Illegal online gambling and betting applications expose Indian digital nagriks to several security risks like cybersecurity attacks and unsafe online environments. They have also emerged as a threat to India's national security because illegal online betting and gambling websites act as channels for money laundering and terrorist financing," The Security and Scientific Technical Research Association (SASTRA) report said.

DMRC books over 1,900 male passengers for entering women's coaches
The Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) has booked more than 1,900 male passengers for entering train coaches reserved for women, according to official data. The penalty for a male passenger who enters a women-only coach is Rs 250, DMRC officials said. Data showed that between January and June this year, the DMRC has booked 1,906 male passengers for entering women's coaches.

TCS net income rose 9% to Rs 12,040 crore; sales climbed 5.4%
Tata Consultancy Services Ltd. reported profit that topped analysts’ estimates, signaling corporations are resuming spending on projects to take advantage of technologies such as artificial intelligence. Net income rose 9 per cent to Rs 12,040 billion ($1.4 billion) in the first quarter through June. Analysts, on average, had projected a profit of Rs 11,959 crore. Sales climbed 5.4% to 62,610 crore. TCS leads India’s nearly $250 billion tech industry, which is betting on technologies such as AI and machine learning to get companies to spend more on their computer systems.

Four of family dead, one injured as truck hits autorickshaw in Gwalior
Four members of a family were killed and one person injured on Thursday after a speeding truck hit their autorickshaw in Gwalior in Madhya Pradesh, a police official said. The incident took place at 2 am on Morena highway in the city's Purani Chavani area, he added. "Naresh Valimiki (52), his wife Usha (45), their son Rahul (25) and niece Ankita (16) died, while the autorickshaw driver has been hospitalised with injuries," Purani Chavani police station assistant sub inspector Dharmendra Chauhan said.

Unnao accident: Double-decker bus involved in accident that claimed 18 lives was 'unfit' for operations
Police have registered an FIR in connection with the incident, which also left 19 people injured, but have not named any accused. "The bus that met with the accident belongs to M/s KC Jain Travels Jodhpur, Rajasthan which is registered at Pushpendra Singh's address in Mawai Khurd of Mahoba district of Uttar Pradesh. The said bus was found to be unfit for operations as it did not have the necessary documents," Assistant Divisional Transport Officer (Enforcement) Arvind Singh told reporters on Wednesday. "On contacting Pushpendra Singh, it was found that the bus was being operated by Chandan Jaiswal, a resident of Paharganj in Delhi," he said.

Union Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw on Thursday slammed Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal, claiming his role in the alleged liquor scam has raised a question mark on his entire political career. The Union information and broadcasting minister was commenting on the Enforcement Directorate's charge-sheet in the alleged excise policy scam, according to which Kejriwal directly used part of the Rs 100 crore "kickbacks" for his stay in a luxury hotel in Goa. "The liquor scam by Kejriwal has raised a question mark on his political career. The Congress too has joined them in the scam. The Congress and AAP have formed an alliance of the corrupt to loot Delhi," the Union minister said.
