The Navi Mumbai police has taken into custody four members of the Lawrence Bishnoi gang for allegedly plotting to attack actor Salman Khan, a development coming in the wake of the recent firing outside his Bandra home, a senior police official said on Saturday.

"What is happening is not a war, but a genocide. War is between two armies, both sides have weapons. Here, the attack is on unarmed people. This is unacceptable," CPI(M) general secretary Sitaram Yechury said on Saturday during a protest in solidarity with Palestine held at Delhi's Jantar Mantar. Communist Party of India (Marxist) and other Left organisations demanded an immediate ceasefire in Gaza, and also accused the BJP-led government of supporting Israel.

Former Samajwadi Party lawmaker booked for remarks against DM, cabinet minister

Cops have booked a former MLC of the Samajwadi Party in Shahjahanpu for remarks he made against the district magistrate and a cabinet minister in a social media post, officials said. Circle officer (city) Saumya Pandey on Saturday said that former MLC Amit Yadav wrote a Facebook post, alleging possible "dishonesty" in counting of votes by the district magistrate and other public representatives "Do not indulge in dishonesty during counting of votes, else there will be bloodshed. Officers are famous for dishonesty," he said in the post.

Delhi court Court reserves order on Kejriwal's interim bail plea for June 5

A court in Delhi today reserved for June 5 its order on an application moved by Delhi Chief Minster and AAP National Convener Arvind Kejriwal seeking interim bail in a money laundering case linked to the alleged excise policy scam. Special Judge Kaveri Baweja reserved the order, observing that the application was for grant of interim bail on medical grounds and not for the extension of the interim bail granted by the Supreme Court.

The death count in the explosion of a stockpile of firecrackers in Odisha's Puri rose to eight today after two more persons undergoing treatment succumbed to their injuries, a senior official said. River ferry sinks in Afghanistan, killing at least 20; 5 bodies recovered

At least 20 people died when a boat sank while crossing a river in eastern Afghanistan Saturday morning, a Taliban official said. So far five bodies have been retrieved including a man, a woman, two boys and a girl, said the Nangarhar health department in a statement. It added that a medical team and ambulances were sent to the area.
