2020 Communal riots case: Delhi HC seeks Delhi police stand on Sharjeel Imam's bail plea
The Delhi High Court today sought the stand of the Delhi police police on student activist Sharjeel Imam's plea seeking bail in connection with a 2020 communal riots case involving allegations of sedition and unlawful activities. The bench issued a notice to the Delhi Police on Imam's appeal against a trial court order rejecting his bail application. Imam's counsel said the trial court wrongly refused to grant him bail even though he has undergone more than half of the maximum sentence that can be awarded to him in case of a conviction.
