Calcutta HC directs CBI to take over Shahjahan's custody, W Bengal govt's appeal for hearing turned down by SC

The Calcutta High Court today handed custody of Sheikh Shahjahan -- the Trinamool leader accused of  land grab and sexual harassment in Bengal's Sandeshkhali -- to the CBI. The Bengal government quickly moved to challenge the order in the Supreme Court, but its appeal for an immediate hearing has been turned down.

Maldives asks Indian officials to leave by May 10 after military pact with China

Maldives President Mohamed Muizzu said that that no Indian military personnel, not even those in civilian clothing, would be present inside his country after May 10, news agency PTI reported today. President Muizzu's statement comes less than a week after an Indian civilian team reached the Maldives to take charge of one of the three aviation platforms in the island nation, well ahead of the March 10 deadline agreed by the two nations for the withdrawal of Indian military personnel.

Ranchi court summons Ex- CM Hemant Soren for disobeying ED notices in land grab case

A Ranchi court  has summoned jailed former Jharkhand chief minister Hemant Soren next month holding him prima facie guilty of disobeying notices issued to him by the Enforcement Directorate in a money laundering probe linked to an alleged land grab case. The agency had filed a complaint against the senior Jharkhand Mukti Morcha (JMM) leader sometime back, saying he had failed to join the investigation under seven summonses issued to him, the first being on August 14 last year.
