On 20th January, he will participate in a programme at Sri Ranganathaswamy Temple in Tiruchirappalli, Tamil Nadu. He will also listen to various scholars reciting verses from the Kamba Ramayanam in this temple. Thereafter, he will reach Rameswaram and perform Darshan and Pooja in Sri Arulmigu Ramanathaswamy Temple. On 21st January, Prime Minister will perform Darshan and Pooja at Kothandaramaswamy Temple, Dhanushkodi. Near Dhanushkodi, Prime Minister will also visit Arichal Munai, which is said to be the place from where the Ram Setu was built.

Six school students on picnic die as boat overturns in lake near Vadodara; several others missing

 Six school children died after a boat carrying 27 students, who were on a picnic, overturned in a lake on the outskirts of Vadodara city in Gujarat on Thursday, officials said. A search operation is underway to trace the remaining students at the Harni lake, where the incident happened, they said. Gujarat Education Minister Kuber Dindor said, "I have just learnt that six children died after a boat carrying school students overturned in a lake." "Rescue operations are underway. The National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) and the fire brigade personnel are on the job along with other agencies," he said. Vadodara district collector A B Gor said there were 27 children on the boat. "We are trying to trace and rescue others," he said. "A boat carrying school students, who came here on a picnic, overturned in Harni lake in the afternoon. The fire brigade has so far rescued seven students, while search is on for the missing ones," Vadodara's chief fire officer Parth Brahmbhatt said. Few local residents rescued some children before the fire brigade personnel reached the spot, he said.

Delhi air quality update: CAQM sub-panel revokes Stage-III of GRAP in Delhi with immediate effect

The Commission for Air Quality Management's (CAQM) sub-committee revoked Stage-III of GRAP in the entire Delhi-NCR with immediate effect amid improvement in Delhi's air quality. GRAP stage III involved a complete halt on construction and demolition work except for essential government projects, mining and stone crushing and ban on BS III petrol and BS IV diesel vehicles in Delhi and surrounding areas.

Philippines landslide: 7 killed, 10 more missing after landslide buries house

Following days of heavy rains, seven people, including five children, were killed after a landslide buried a house in southern Davao de Oro province, officials said today. Two people were injured and approximately 10 were missing. Authorities suspended search and rescue operations because of rains in a residential area for small-scale miners.

India registers 1,226 cases of JN.1 sub-variant, highest from Karnataka, Andhra Pradesh

A total of 1,226 cases of Covid-19 sub-variant JN.1 have been reported in the country so far with Karnataka and Andhra Pradesh recording the highest number of cases till now, INSACOG said today. Indian SARS-CoV-2 Genomics Consortium (INSACOG) data  showed that 17 states and union territories (UTs) have found the presence of the variant.
