Operations to rescue 40 labourers trapped under a collapsed tunnel's debris here for the last three days have been hampered after a landslide at the site and technical issues in a drilling machine being used to create an escape passage, officials said. The labourers are safe, and oxygen, electricity, medicines, food items and water are being constantly supplied to them, they said. Rubble from the landslide fell on the collapsed part of the under-construction Silkyara tunnel on Tuesday night, hampering operations as well as injuring two rescue workers. They are being treated at a makeshift hospital, the officials said.

Telugu Desam Party leader Mareddy Ravindranath Reddy who is popularly known as BTech Ravi, was arrested by the Vallur Police on Tuesday night. The former MLC has been remanded for 14 days and the Pulivendula constituency-in-charge was moved to Kadapa Central Jail at midnight. Kadapa Deputy Superintendent of Police MD Sharif said that BTech Ravi was arrested for protesting near the Kadapa airport ten months ago.

A total of 16 vehicles, including three cars, were gutted after a fire broke out in a parking area of a residential complex in the early hours of Wednesday in Maharashtra's Thane city, civic officials said. No one was injured in the incident that took place at the housing society in the city's Panchpakhadi shortly after midnight, said Yasin Tadvi, chief of Thane civic body's Disaster Management Cell. The fire started around 12.45 am at the P1 level of the two-floor parking lot of the building, situated close to the headquarters of the Thane Municipal Corporation, he said. A fire engine was sent to the spot and it was put out by 1.30 am, he said.

The NASA-ISRO Synthetic Aperture Radar (NISAR) is set to be launched in the first quarter of 2024 after a few tests, particularly those related to vibration, NASA officials have said. "ISRO is projecting the first quarter of next year. So, I mean, that's ready," NASA NISAR Project Manager Phil Barela said during a media interaction here on Wednesday. He is expecting the launch of NISAR (spelt as 'Naisar') "not earlier than January" from the Satish Dhawan Space Centre at Sriharikota aboard the ISRO Geosynchronous Satellite Launch Vehicle Mark-II.
