Women are agents of social change and social cohesion: India at UNSC

India at the United Nations Security Council (UNSC) underlined the contribution of women in the present social scenario, changing world and highlighted the need of integrated approach for the betterment of society on Friday.

Yojna Patel, India's Deputy Permanent Representative (DPR) to United Nations while addressing a debate on "Women's participation in International Peace and Security from theory to Practice" said, "Women are agents of social change and social cohesion. It is now universally acknowledged that achievement of gender equality and empowerment of women, are critical factors in maintaining international peace and security. Sustainable peace requires an integrated approach based on coherence between the pillars of security, development, human rights and rule of law and equality."

She added, "In this context, UNSC Resolution 1325 was path-breaking as for the first-time, it linked gender equality and the maintenance of international peace and security. It also recognized women's participation as being a key to resolving conflicts and securing peace."

US recommends job authorisation documents early in Green Card application; Indians to benefit

A White House Commission has recommended issuing an employment authorisation card and other necessary travel documents at the preliminary stage of the Green Card application processing system, a proposal if approved by the US president would be a big relief to thousands of foreign professionals, an overwhelming majority of whom are Indians.

A recommendation on this was approved by the White House Commission for Asian American, Native Hawaiian, and Pacific Islander (AANHPI) Affairs on Thursday.

A Green Card, known officially as a Permanent Resident Card, is a document issued to immigrants to the US as evidence that the bearer has been granted the privilege of residing permanently.

Hanuman Beniwal slams ED for election-timed raids in Rajasthan, calls for accountability

Reacting to the Enforcement Directorate (ED) raids in Rajasthan, Rashtriya Loktantrik Party (RLP) supremo Hanuman Beniwal on Thursday said that the ED is "running its image" by taking action at a time when the elections are around the corner.

"The action should have been taken at the time of the paper leaks itself. The ED is ruining its image by taking action at a time when the elections are around the corner. Similarly, Rajasthan Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot is naming Union Minister Gajendra Singh Shekhawat in the 'Sanjeevani scam.' If indeed the latter is guilty, action should be taken, but one should not work to tarnish the image," Beniwal said while speaking to media persons in Rajasthan's Jaipur.

"If ED doesn't find anything in the action, then it should apologize to the person in whose house it entered," he added.

BSF jawan, 4 civilians injured as Pakistan troops open fire at 5 Indian posts in Jammu

A Border Security Force jawan and four civilians were injured when Pakistan Rangers opened unprovoked firing at five Indian posts along the International Border (IB) in the Arnia and R S Pura sectors in Jammu Thursday night, a senior official said.

The firing by the Pakistani troops started around 8 pm in the Arnia sector, he said, adding that the "unprovoked firing" was befittingly retaliated.

Four to five posts are involved in the firing on both sides, the BSF official told PTI. He said a BSF jawan and four civilians were injured.

Delhi's air continues to be 'poor' with AQI at 249, Hanumangarh's worst

The overall air quality in Delhi continued to remain in the "poor" category, with the Air Quality Index (AQI) recorded at 249 on Friday morning, as per the System of Air Quality and Weather Forecasting and Research (SAFAR)-India.

According to the Central Pollution Control Board's (CPCB's) daily bulletin, Delhi's AQI as of 4 p.m. on October 26 was 256. It was more than 243 recorded on October 25.

As stubble burning continues in parts of Punjab and Haryana, air quality in the national capital has worsened in the past few days. According to data, over 2,500 cases of stubble burning have been reported this year so far. However, the numbers are better than those of the previous two years.
