Excise case: Delhi court issues release order for ex-AAP communications in-charge Vijay Nair

A court issued a release order for former AAP communications in-charge Vijay Nair in a money-laundering case lodged by the ED and a corruption case lodged by the CBI, both linked to the alleged Delhi excise scam. Special Judge Kaveri Baweja issued the order after accepting the bail bonds furnished by Nair in both cases.

Kerala to develop local early warning systems for disasters: CM Pinarayi Vijayan

The Kerala government has decided to focus on scientific use of land and deployment of localised early warning systems as part of its efforts to tackle Wayanad-like landslides and other disasters in the future, Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan has said. He said the landslide forecasting systems were in the "infancy" stage and his government now wants to "strengthen" Kerala's institutes and departments meant for studying climate change by providing them enhanced manpower and modern equipments.

Over 200 fall ill from contaminated water at Greater Noida housing society

Over 200 residents of Supertech Eco Village 2 in Greater Noida West fell ill on Monday after consuming contaminated water, with children being the most affected, according to a report by the Times of India. These 20-storey buildings, housing over 160 flats, are suspected to have been contaminated due to inadequate cleaning of the society's water tanks last week. Read here for more details.

Max graft complaints in 2023 against rail, local bodies, banks: CVC report

Of the total corruption complaints received by the Central Vigilance Commission last year, the highest number of plaints was against railway employees, followed by those in Delhi's local bodies and public sector banks, a report by the anti-graft watchdog showed. As many as 74,203 graft complaints were received against all categories of officers/employees in 2023, of which 66,373 were disposed of and 7,830 were pending, it said.

8 devotees killed, 10 injured as truck hits stationary vehicle in Haryana

Eight people were killed and 10 others injured after a truck hit a stationary vehicle carrying devotees in Haryana's Jind district, police said on Tuesday. The accident occurred past midnight in Bidharana village on the Hisar-Chandigarh national highway when the devotees were travelling from Kurukshetra district to a temple at Gogamedi in Rajasthan.The truck, bearing a Rajasthan registration number, was loaded with wooden logs when it hit the stationary vehicle.

One girl dies, nine students fall ill after drinking water in school in Bihar's Nalanda

A girl died and at least nine students of a school in Bihar's Nalanda district fell ill after allegedly consuming water, an official said on Tuesday. The Nalanda district administration said the deceased was not a student of the school and she had come to meet her friends at the school. Nalanda District Magistrate Shashank Shubhankar told PTI, "that some students complained of vomiting and stomach ache after drinking water from the RO system installed in the school premises on Monday.

3 held just hours after kidnapping UP Jal Nigam official's minor daughter

A former driver of a junior engineer of Uttar Pradesh Jal Nigam and two other men have been arrested for allegedly kidnapping the six-year-old daughter of the official, police said on Tuesday. Additional Superintendent of Police Ayush Vikram Singh said the girl was kidnapped on Monday afternoon and the accused had demanded a ransom of Rs 3 crore for her release.
