Mahua Moitra writes to LS speaker over Apple security alerts received by oppn MPs, seeks protection
TMC MP Mahua Moitra on Wednesday wrote to Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla flagging alerts received by several opposition leaders about "state-sponsored" attacks on their iPhones, and urged him to provide them protection to continue doing their duties.
This "illegal surveillance by the government" is the worst attack on fundamental rights guaranteed by the Constitution, the Krishnanagar MP said.
On Tuesday, several opposition leaders including Moitra, Shiv Sena (UBT) MP Priyanka Chaturvedi, AAP's Raghav Chadha, Congress' Shashi Tharoor and his party's media and publicity department head Pawan Khera, and CPI(M) general Sitaram Yechury claimed to have received alerts from Apple about "state-sponsored attackers trying to remotely compromise" their iPhones.
Maratha quota: All-party meet asks Jarange to withdraw his indefinite fast
Leaders at an all-party meeting on Maratha quota chaired by Maharashtra Chief Minister Eknath Shinde on Wednesday passed a resolution asking activist Manoj Jarange to call off his indefinite fast.
The Maharashtra government is in favour of the Maratha quota, CM Shinde said after the meeting in Mumbai.
Activist Jarange should cooperate with the government in ensuring quota for the Maratha community he said.
The CM said Marathas should observe restraint.
The government needs time for legal modalities to implement the reservation, Shinde said.
500 Maratha quota supporters booked for protest on Mumbai-Bengaluru highway
The Pune police have registered offences against nearly 500 activists of outfits supporting Maratha reservation for allegedly blocking a stretch of the Mumbai-Bengaluru Highway and setting tyres ablaze, officials said on Wednesday.
Protesters blocked the highway stretch near Navale bridge in Maharashtra's Pune city between 12.15 pm and 2.45 pm on Tuesday and burnt tyres to press for their demand for reservation to Marathas, police said.
The police said they have registered offences against 400 to 500 activists of the Maratha Kranti Morcha and Sakal Maratha Morcha on various charges, including causing danger to the lives of others and spreading fear among commuters.
Breath analyser test: DGCA issues revised norms; pilots, crew members barred from using mouthwash, tooth gel
Pilots and crew members cannot use mouthwash, tooth gel or any such substance that has alcoholic content, as that could result in positive breath analyser test, according to revised norms issued by aviation regulator DGCA.
Besides, various changes have been made to the norms pertaining to the procedure for medical examination of aircraft personnel for alcohol consumption.
In a release on Wednesday, DGCA said it has revised the Civil Aviation Requirements (CAR) on procedure for medical examination of aircraft personnel for alcohol consumption with the objective of enhancing safety of aircraft operations coupled with streamlining provisions of the existing regulations in line with feedback from industry and stakeholders from time to time for more effective implementation.

No law and order in Maharashtra: Sanjay Raut attacks Shinde govt over Maratha quota row
Shiv Sena MP Sanjay Raut launched a scathing attack on the ruling Shiv Sena and said that the law and order in Maharashtra is deteriorating amid the ongoing Maratha reservation row.
"Look at the situation in Maharashtra, you are seeing that people of Maratha community have taken to the streets, the MLA and the minister are being stopped. Villages are being entered and their houses are being burnt. Law and order have completely broken down", he said while addressing a Press Conference.

No irregularities in teachers' recruitment: Nitish
Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar on Wednesday dismissed allegations of irregularities in the recruitment of more than 1 lakh teachers in the state who are scheduled to get letters of appointment on Thursday.
Kumar, who will himself hand appointment letters to thousands of candidates at a grand ceremony here, also accused detractors of acting upon "instructions from above".
"Tomorrow is a big day. Those who are finding faults never had any problems till they were with me. Now they are picking holes upon instructions from above," he told reporters on Wednesday.

Plea in SC seeks implementation of Women Reservation Bill before 2024 polls
The Supreme Court will hear on November 3 a petition seeking immediate implementation of the 33 per cent Women Reservation Bill in its true letter and spirit before Parliamentary General Election 2024.
The plea has been filed by Jaya Thakur through advocates Varun Thakur and Varinder Kumar Sharma.
The matter will be heard by a bench of Justices Sanjiv Khanna and SVN Bhatti.
Police stop Shiv Sena activists from entering Belagavi at Maharashtra border
Shiv Sena activists on their way towards Belagavi to participate in the 'black day' event by Maharashtra Ekikaran Samiti (MES), on the occasion of Karnataka formation day, were prevented entry by the police at the border between the two states on Wednesday.
They were stopped at Kognoli check post in Nippani taluk on the Pune-Bengaluru national highway here, police said.
According to police, about 30 Shiv Sena activists led by its Kolhapur district President Vijay Devane were stopped at the border from entering Belagavi and handed over to Kolhapur Police.

Without taking the name of his party leader, Akhilesh Yadav, Samajwadi Party MLC Rajpal Kashyap on Wednesday said that after the 2024 Lok Sabha elections a farmer's son will hoist the Tricolour at Red Fort in the national capital on the occasion of Independence Day celebrations.
The Samajwadi Party MLC said that in next year's general elections, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) will be unseated.
"In 2024, BJP will be wiped out and the farmer's son will hoist the flag at the Red Fort in Delhi," the Samajwadi Party leader told reporters here.
