Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) on Monday declared several Meitei Extremist Organisations, their factions, wings and front organisations as unlawful associations under the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act for a period of five years. These organisations are the Peoples' Liberation Army (PLA) and its political wing; the Revolutionary Peoples' Front (RPF); the United National Liberation Front (UNLF) and its armed wing the Manipur Peoples' Army (MPA); the Peoples' Revolutionary Party of Kangleipak (PREPAK) and its armed wing; the Red Army.

The Nepal government on Monday decided to ban the Chinese-owned social network platform Tiktok, citing its negative effects on social harmony. According to government spokesperson and Minister for Communication and Information Technology, Rekha Sharma, Monday's Cabinet meeting decided to prohibit TikTok's use. The decision to ban Tiktok will be implemented through the Ministry of Communication and IT, she said.

China lends over $21 bn more than previously thought to Pakistan: Report

China in the past 20 years lent about $21 billion more than previously thought to Pakistan, Nikkei Asia reported, citing a study revealed this week. According to the study, Pakistan has the biggest China-funded energy portfolio in the world. AidData, a research institute at William and Mary University in the US, said that Pakistan's cumulative public debt exposure to China from 2000 to 2021 was $67.2 billion. The number surpassed the $ 46 billion recorded for the same period in the World Bank's International Debt Statistics on the basis of voluntary disclosures from Pakistan, Nikkei Asia reported.

People associated with the BJP instigated others to burn firecrackers on Diwali, leading to an overnight increase of over 100 points in the national capital's air quality index, Delhi Environment Minister Gopal Rai alleged on Monday.
 
At a press conference here, he said the firecrackers burnt in Delhi were sourced from Uttar Pradesh and Haryana, and that certain individuals, including the police of these states, permitted the transportation of those firecrackers to the city.

India's vegetable oil imports up 16% at 16.71 mn tonnes in 2022-23 oil year

India's vegetable oils import rose 16 per cent to 167.1 lakh tonnes in the current oil year that ended in October 2023, driven by lower duty on certain edible oils, industry body SEA said on Monday.
 
The country had imported 144.1 lakh tonnes of vegetable oils in the previous 2021-22 oil year (November-October).
Out of the total vegetable oils, much of the imports were edible oils at 164.7 lakh tonnes, while non-edible oils were only 2.4 lakh tonnes during 2022-23 oil year.

CBI seeks L-G's sanction to proceed against former minister Satyendar Jain

The CBI has sought sanction from the Delhi LG to file a case against former Jail Minister Satyendar Jain for allegedly extorting crores of rupees from various "high profile prisoners", including alleged conman Sukesh Chandrashekar, to enable them to live comfortably in prison, officials said.

The CBI, while seeking mandatory sanction from Lieutenant General VK Saxena to proceed against Jain, has alleged that "a high level corruption and extortion racket" was being run in the jails of Delhi in connivance with then DG Prison Sandeep Goel and then Additional Inspector General of Prisons Mukesh Prasad along with associate officers, private persons and accomplices.

Patanjali to ship 20 MT of non-basmati rice to Nepal for earthquake victims

The government has provided a one-time exemption from the export ban to Patanjali Ayurved for shipping 20 tonnes of non-basmati white rice as a donation to Nepal for earthquake victims.

Over 3,000 migrants return to Afghanistan from Turkey in last 20 days

Over 3,000 Afghans have been transported from Turkey to Kabul for deportation in the last 20 days, Afghan news agency, Khaama Press reported citing the head of the Ministry of Refugees' Legal Support Directorate.

According to the source, among the 3,090 people deported by plane were seven families and seven children.

The International Organisation for Migration (IOM) has provided monetary support to 3,083 of these persons, with a total aid of 36,996,000 Afghanis, reported Khaama Press.
