ED carries out raids in Rs 250-crore money laundering case in J-K

The Enforcement Directorate on Thursday searched six places in connection with a Rs 250-crore money laundering case in Jammu and Kashmir, officials said.

The searches included the premises of the former chairman of Jammu and Kashmir State Cooperative Bank Limited, they said. Earlier the officials had mentioned that the case pertained to J-K Bank.

Tamil Nadu CM Stalin takes stock of situation at Chennai control room after heavy rainfall

Tamil Nadu Chief Minister MK Stalin visited Chennai Robbin Building - Corporation head office to review the arrangements at the Command Control Centre from where the rainfall situation in the state is being monitored.

According to the IMD, the coastal districts of Tamil Nadu, including Chennai, Kancheepuram, Tiruvallur, Cuddalore, Nagapattinam and Ramanathapuram, received the heaviest rainfall. The highest rainfall of 19 cm was recorded in Avadi in Tiruvallur district.

France's fashion group SMCP strikes deal with Reliance to expand into India

Fashion group SMCP, owner of French fashion labels Sandro and Maje, said on Thursday it signed a deal with Reliance to expand into India and will join other high-end European brands opening stores in the Jio World Plaza mall in Mumbai.

"There aren't a lot of accessible luxury fashion labels in India so we think it's time to be pioneering," said SMCP CEO Isabelle Guichot, citing India's wealth and growing population of younger generations among reasons for entering the country.

Henry Kissinger advocated strong ties with India under PM Modi

Henry Kissinger, known for his disdain for India's leadership in the 1970s, has died at the age of 100, but the well-known American statesman and former secretary of state has been advocating stronger US-India ties for the last one decade under Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

Considered the architect of the US-China relationship since the early 70s, Kissinger died at his home in Connecticut on Wednesday. His consulting firm, Kissinger Associates, did not provide a cause of his death.

UP Dy CM Keshav Prasad Maurya says BJP leaders support caste census

After the walkout by Samajwadi Party members in the Legislative Council on Wednesday on the issue of the caste census, Leader of the House Keshav Prasad Maurya said that senior BJP leaders and he himself are in support of the caste census and only the Central Government can get it done.

"We are also in favour of caste-wise census and our senior leaders are also in favour of it but it is a matter for the central government to conduct the caste-wise census," said Keshav Prasad Maurya.

Truce in Israel-Hamas war extended by a day, minutes before it was set to expire

Israel and Hamas, said agreed to extend a temporary truce by another day minutes before it was set to expire, said Qatar, which has been mediating between the two sides. 
 
The truce was set to expire Thursday morning. Negotiations on extending it came down to the wire, with last-minute disagreements over the hostages to be freed by Hamas in exchange for another day of a halt in fighting.  The Qatari Foreign Ministry said the truce was being extended under the same terms as in the past, under which Hamas has released 10 Israeli hostages per day in exchange for 30 Palestinian prisoners.

Israel-Hamas fail to agree for next hostage swap, truce set to expire

A truce between Israel and Hamas was set to expire at 0500 GMT on Thursday as time ran down on efforts to prolong a six-day pause in fighting and an exchange of hostages held in Gaza for Palestinian prisoners.
 
The truce, extended from its initial four days, brought the first respite in the bombardment of Gaza with much of the coastal territory of 2.3 million having been reduced to wasteland in response to a deadly rampage by Hamas militants into southern Israel on Oct. 7.

Blast at Indian chemical plant kills seven, injures 24, probe underway

A storage tank blast killed seven people and injured 24 at a plant of Indian specialty chemicals maker Aether Industries in the western port city of Surat, police said on Thursday.
 
The cause of the explosion early on Wednesday has yet to be determined, said city fire official Omprakash Mishra, although a fire it started had been put out.
