Army flags off motorcycle expedition to mark 25th anniversary of Kargil war victory
The Army on Monday flagged off the final phase of a D-5 motorcycle expedition to commemorate the 25th anniversary of India's victory over Pakistan in the 1999 Kargil war.
The expedition, comprising five officers, four JCOs and 17 soldiers including women riders from the Corps of Military Police, was flagged off from the National War Memorial in Delhi on June 26 for the final phase of the journey culminating at the Kargil War Memorial in Drass.

Rath Yatra: Chariots reach Puri's Gundicha temple
The chariots of the sibling deities, Lord Jagannath, Lord Balabhadra and Devi Subhadra, reached the Gundicha temple on Monday, with which the first leg of the Rath Yatra celebrations in Odisha's Puri concluded.
Thousands of people pulled the chariots, while lakhs of devotees gathered on the roadside to watch the procession on 'Badadanda' amid heat and humidity.
The 'yatra' began on Sunday evening, but halted a few metres later due to sunset. It resumed the 2.5 km journey from the 12th-century shrine to the Gundicha temple around 9.30 am on Monday and concluded at 2.35 pm.

Indonesian landslide triggered by heavy rain leaves 12 dead and dozens missing at illegal gold mine
A landslide triggered by torrential rains crashed onto an unauthorised gold mining operation on Indonesia's Sulawesi island, killing at least 12 people, officials said Monday. Dozens others were reported missing.
More than 100 villagers were digging for grains of gold on Sunday in the remote Bone Bolango district in Gorontalo province when tons of mud plunged down the surrounding hills and buried their makeshift camps, said Heriyanto, head of the Search and Rescue Office.

Rahul Gandhi arrives at Raj Bhavan in Imphal to meet Governor Anusuiya Uikey
Leader of the Opposition in Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi is expected to discuss related to violence-hit areas with Manipur Governor Anusuiya Uikey. Earlier in the day, he visited a relief camp in Manipur's Churachandpur district and interacted with inmates there. People displaced by the ethnic violence in the northeastern state are staying in those relief camps. Gandhi who is accompanied by senior Congress leaders talked to the people staying in the relief camps and listened to their problems. "Rahul Gandhi's visit aims at providing support to people and to assess the situation on the ground. His visit reflects the party's commitment to address the concerns of those affected by the recent violence," state Congres president Keisham Meghachandra told reporters.

Centre rebutts report that claimed India will struggle to create sufficient jobs even with 7% growth rate
The labour ministry on Monday rebutted a recent report by Citigroup which forecast that India will struggle to create sufficient employment opportunities even with a 7 per cent growth rate. The ministry in a statement said the report "fails to account for the comprehensive and positive employment data available from official sources such as Periodic Labour Force Survey (PLFS) and the Reserve Bank of India's KLEMS data." The recent research report by Citigroup on employment in India, quoted by some of the print and electronic media, forecast that India will struggle to create sufficient employment opportunities even with a 7 per cent growth rate.

SC hearing NEET-UG case: Govt asked what steps they have taken to segregate the tainted from untainted
Speaking on Monday's hearing of NEET-UG paper leak case, advocate Narendra Hooda said, "The matter was heard for about two hours by the CJI bench. After hearing, the court has passed a detailed order, where all the main contentions of the petitioners who are seeking reexamination have been recorded. CBI has been directed to file a status report with the regard to the examination. NTA and Government of India have also been asked to file their status report, detailing as to what steps they have taken to segregate the tainted from the untainted, and further action will be taken on the next date. No interim order has been passed today with regard to counselling."

Speaking on the Supreme Court's hearing on the NEET-UG 2024 exam, Alakh Pandey, petitioner and CEO of Physics Wallah said, "The CJI bench was convinced of the fact that paper has been leaked...They want to determine that paper has been leaked to what extent...They have asked for the timeline related to; when is the paper prepared? Which committee prepares it? How is a paper prepared in two sets? How is paper circulated to centres? They wanted to see the chain of custody of the paper to determine the time of the paper leak...The court wants to determine whether it (paper leak) was a systematic failure or it happened due to malpractices of some individuals..."

Delhi HC dismisses plea to set aside order blocking messaging app in J&K over threat to national security
The Delhi High Court has refused to set aside the Central government's order blocking open-source messaging application Briar' in Jammu and Kashmir as it is suspected to be used by terrorists and could be a potential threat to national security. The high court observed that in the matters of national security, principles of natural justice can be given a go-by. The interim order has been reviewed by the committee constituted under Section 7 of the Blocking Rules and as stated earlier, the committee consists of top officials of the Government of India.

Terrorists attack Indian Army convoy in Jammu and Kashmir's Kathua; two soldiers injured
An Indian Army convoy was attacked by terrorists in the Machedi area of Kathua district in Jammu and Kashmir. The area falls under the 9 Corps of the Indian Army. After firing by terrorists, Army troops also retaliated. At least two soldiers sustained injuries in the attack. The development comes a day after six terrorists were eliminated in South Kashmir.

Delhi Excise policy case: Court issues notice to CBI on BRS leader K Kavitha's plea for default bail
The Rouse Avenue Court on Monday issued notice to the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) on a bail plea of Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) leader K Kavitha. She has sought a default bail in the Delhi Excise policy case. Special judge Kaveri Baweja issued notice to the CBI and listed the matter on July 12 for further hearing. Advocate Nitesh Rana and Mohit P Rao appeared for K Kavitha. They submitted that while considering the charge sheet for the purpose of cognizance on July 6, it was specifically dictated by the court that the charge sheet was defective.
