Ukraine conflict, economic agenda to be focus of Modi-Putin summit talks: Report

Summit talks between Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Russian President Vladimir Putin are expected to focus on ways to further shore up India-Russia cooperation in varied sectors -- such as energy, trade, manufacturing and fertilisers. Besides, the war in Ukraine is also set to figure prominently at the talks. According to PTI sources, the Indian side is likely to reaffirm its position that dialogue and diplomacy are the only way forward to resolve the conflict as there can't be any solution on the battlefield.

Delhi likely to receive light rain; air quality continues to be 'satisfactory'

Delhi recorded a minimum temperature of 27.2 degrees Celsius on Tuesday, with the weather department forecasting a generally cloudy sky with light rain for the day. The maximum temperature is likely to settle around 33 degrees Celsius, it stated. Meanwhile, the Air quality index (AQI) was recorded in the satisfactory category with a reading of 76 at 9 am, according to the Central Pollution Control Board. An AQI between zero and 50 is considered good, and between 51 and 100 is satisfactory.

Four killed, 12 injured in road accident in Uttar Pradesh's Amethi

At least four people were killed and 12 others were injured on Tuesday morning when a bus they were travelling in collided with a vehicle in Uttar Pradesh's Amethi, police said. The bus was on its way to Delhi from Siwan, a village in Uttar Pradesh, police said. "The injured were taken to a hospital by ambulance. Two people in critical condition have been referred to the district hospital for further treatment," police added.

Heavy rainfall triggers waterlogging in several areas of Uttarakhand's Udham Singh Nagar

Following a downpour, Banushi Toll Plaza in Uttarakhand's Udham Singh Nagar district was completely submerged in water on Tuesday. “Water started collecting here the day before yesterday (July 8) and by the night everything got submerged. We don’t have electricity right now. There was up to 6 ft of water. We somehow reached the building and spent a day,” said a toll plaza official.

Amid tight security, over 5,800 pilgrims leave Jammu for Amarnath Yatra

A fresh batch of over 5,400 pilgrims left Jammu city on Tuesday for the twin base camps in Kashmir to join the annual Amarnath Yatra, officials said. With this, 67,698 pilgrims have left the Jammu base camp for the valley since June 28 when Lt Governor Manoj Sinha flagged off the first batch. The 52-day yatra formally began on June 29 from twin base camps of Baltal and Pahalgam in Kashmir and will conclude on August 19.

Torrential rains disrupt normal life in parts of coastal Karnataka; several areas waterlogged

Normal life was thrown out of gear in the coastal and Western Ghats districts of Dakshina Kannada, Udupi and Uttara Kannada following heavy to very heavy and incessant rains over the past few days, officials said. Uttara Kannada district Collector K Lakshmipriya said there was heavy rain in the coastal parts of the district on Monday and 313 people had taken shelter in eight care centres opened in Honnavar Taluk and they were provided with basic facilities. Due to the 'excess rain,' many low-lying areas in the undivided Dakshina Kannada (including Udupi) were flooded. However, on Monday there were no incidents of flooding inside Mangaluru city, but inundation was reported in lower parts of Bantwal town situated near the riverfront.

No relief in sight; IMD predicts heavy rainfall at isolated places in Mumbai till July 12

Acording to the India Meteorological Department (IMD), heavy to moderate rainfall is likely in Palghar, Thane, Dhule, Nandurbar, Jalgaon, Nasik, Ahmednagar, Kolhapur, Sangli, Sholapur, Aurangabad, Jalna, Parbhani, Beed, Hingoli, Nanded, Latur, Osmanabad, Akola, Amravati, Bhandara, Buldhana, Chandrapur, Gadchiroli, Gondia, Nagpur, Wardha, Washim and Yavatmal up to July 12. The IMD has issued an orange alert for Mumbai for July 9.

Congress attacks Maha govt over 'monsoon mismanagement'; citizen group asks BMC for compensation

As waterlogged streets disrupted normal life in India's financial capital, Watchdog Foundation, a Mumbai-based citizens group, has wrote a letter to Maharashtra’s Chief Minister Eknath Shinde. The letter reads, "We express our deep dissatisfaction with the BMC’s recent claim of having kept the metropolis “rain ready.” This assertion has been thoroughly discredited by the significant flooding experienced across several areas, which severely disrupted vehicular traffic... We demand revival of all lakes and ponds and removal of encroachments from riverbanks... We also demand immediate compensation for those have suffered damage due to flooding.”

When asked about Prime Minister Narendra Modi's Russia visit, US Department of State Spokesperson Matthew Miller said, "So again, we did just see Prime Minister Narendra Modi, like Hungary PM Viktor Orban, meet with President Volodymyr Zelenskyy. We thought that was an important step to take. And we would urge India, as we do any country when it engages with Russia, to make clear that any resolution to the conflict in Ukraine needs to be one that respects the UN Charter, that respects Ukraine’s territorial integrity, Ukraine’s sovereignty. And India is a strategic partner with whom we engage in a full and frank dialogue, and that includes on our concerns about the relationship with Russia."

Kathua ambush: Massive search operation launched as terrorists fled into nearby forest

A statement issued by police read, “Exchange of fire between terrorists and security forces in the Machhedi area of Kathua district. Two Army personnel injured. Massive search operation has been launched.” It added, “After attacking the army truck, terrorists fled into the nearby forest.
