Amit Shah to visit Tripura in May to review Bru resettlement programme
Union Home Minister Amit Shah is likely to visit Tripura in May to review the rehabilitation of Brus in the state, a senior official said on Thursday.
A total of 37,136 Brus, who fled Mizoram due to ethnic tensions in 1997, were rehabilitated in Tripura after a historic agreement was signed.

Kerala General Education Minister V Sivankutty has written to Prime Minister Narendra Modi seeking a review of the NCERT's recent controversial omission of certain portions from class 11 and 12 textbooks.
In the letters sent to PM and Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan on Wednesday, the state minister stated that it should be ensured that children are provided a comprehensive and balanced education through text books, which is necessary to mould them as responsible citizens and future leaders.

"Forget others, we got ditched by our own sister Babita Phogat," alleged one wrestler, who is protesting against Wrestling Federation of India (WFI) president Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh at the Jantar Mantar here.
"She first forced us to sit on dharna, asked us that no political leader should come on dais. We listened to her every command and asked all the political leaders to not come meet us, but then she (Babita) politicised everything for her personal benefits and backstabbed us and left us here alone" the wrestler told IANS on condition of anonymity.
"That was the most disheartening part of our fight for justice. But we know that the entire nation is with us, our truth is with us."

The Delhi Court on Thursday set aside a Delhi University order debarring an NSUI leader for a year for his alleged involvement in the screening on the campus a controversial BBC documentary on the 2002 Gujarat riots.
Justice Purushaindra Kumar Kaurav said action against Lokesh Chugh, a PhD scholar and NSUI national secretary, was taken in violation of the principle of natural justice, and "reasons are necessary to be assigned by the administrative authority" in the order.

Congress leader Priyanka Gandhi Vadra on Thursday hit out at Prime Minister Narendra Modi over a joke made by him involving a suicide note, saying the PM and those laughing heartily at his joke ought to educate themselves better rather than "ridicule" mental health issues in an "insensitive" manner.
Prime Minister Modi, while speaking at a media channel conclave on Wednesday, narrated a joke about how a professor reading a suicide note by his daughter remarked how she had got a spelling wrong despite his efforts for so many years.
The joke was made by the prime minister while remarking that the editor-in-chief of the channel had started speaking well in Hindi.

This comes after Gangster-turned-politician Anand Mohan Singh walked free from Bihar's Saharsa jail early Thursday morning, a move which was mandated following the amendment of the prison rules by the Bihar government allowing the release of 27 convicts including him.
Speaking to ANI, Uma Devi, wife of late Gopalganj DM G Krishnaiah, said, "I appeal to the President and the PM to intervene in this matter and ask CM Nitish Kumar to send him (Anand Mohan) back to jail."
BSF shoots down drone along India-Pakistan border in Punjab's Amritsar
Border Security Force (BSF) shot down a Pakistani drone sneaking into the Indian territory, carrying packets of Heroin and Opium, near Dhanoe Kalan village of Punjab's Amritsar, officials said on Thursday.
The BSF troops recovered a black coloured Drone (Quadcopter, DJI Matrice 300 RTK) in partially broken condition during the initial search of the area, informed BSF Punjab Frontier.
Among other materials recovered included a big packet wrapped with yellow adhesive tape containing two packets of suspected heroin and two small packets of Opium, one iron ring attached to the consignment, added the BSF.
PM hails Cabinet decisions approving medical devices policy, setting up 157 govt nursing colleges
Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Thursday hailed the Union Cabinet's approval to the National Medical Devices Policy 2023, saying it will boost the health sector and further efforts to make India a leader in making as well as exporting medical devices.
He also said the cabinet decision approving establishment of 157 new nursing colleges is great news for India's aspiring nursing professionals.
"The co-location with existing medical colleges also signifies optimum use of resources," he said.
