Govt further tightens stock limits on wheat to curb hoarding
The government on Friday further tightened stock holding norms for wholesalers, retailers, big chain retailers and processors with immediate effect in order to curb hoarding and to check price rise. Briefing media, Food Secretary Sanjeev Chopra said the stock limit has been reduced to 1,000 tonnes from the existing 2,000 tonnes for traders/wholesalers. The stock limit will be 5 tonnes instead of 10 tonnes on each retailer, 5 tonnes for each depot of a big chain retailer and a total of 1,000 tonnes for all their depots, he said.

Cyclone Michaung's aftermath: Andhra CM Reddy visits Tirupati, Bapatla districts
Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Y S Jagan Mohan Reddy visited Tirupati and Bapatla districts on Friday to take stock of the post-cyclone Michaung situation. He first visited Tirupati district and sanctioned repair works worth Rs 32 crore, which included 110 tanks, roads and other infrastructure on war footing. "The loss we all suffered is inexplicable. We set up 92 relief camps in this place (Tirupati district). Around 8,500 people were shifted to those camps. We gave food rations to 60,000 people who were marooned," said Reddy, addressing Balireddypalem villagers and cyclone victims.

90% of crops submerged in flood water, state failed to protect crops: Naidu
While inspecting the cyclone-affected areas of Amravati, former Andhra Pradesh CM and Telugu Desam Party president N Chandrababu Naidu says, "90% of crops have submerged in the flood water. The state government has failed to protect the crops and they didn't even provide proper assistance to farmers. Proper drainage systems were not laid. Even after the landfall of cyclone Michuangmichoung, water logging can be seen in paddy fields. The government has done nothing to tackle this problem. We have seen the Telangana polls result and in the upcoming days, Andhra Pradesh will also face the consequences."

Cyclone Michaung: Stalin to donate one-month salary to CM's relief fund
Tamil Nadu Chief Minister MK Stalin will be donating one-month's salary to the Chief Minister's Public Relief Fund to help Tamil Nadu's recovery from Cyclone Michaung havoc. The Chief Minister has also called on all MPs and MLAs to do the same. "I donate my one month's salary to the Chief Minister's Public Relief Fund for recovery from the Michaung storm disaster. I request all the members of the assembly and parliament to donate funds," said MK Stalin in a statement. Earlier on Wednesday, Stalin also wrote to Prime Minister Narendra Modi, seeking an immediate interim relief fund of Rs 5,060 crores amid the destruction caused by Cyclone Michaung in Tamil Nadu.

India will address EU's carbon tax issue, will retaliate if required: Goyal
India will address the issue of the European Union's plan to impose a carbon tax on certain imported goods, Commerce and Industry Minister Piyush Goyal on Friday said, adding that "I will retaliate" if required. The CBAM (Carbon Border Adjustment Mechanism) or carbon tax (a kind of import duty) will come into effect from January 1, 2026. However, from October 1 this year, domestic companies from seven carbon-intensive sectors, including steel, cement, fertiliser, aluminium and hydrocarbon products, will have to share data with regard to carbon emissions with the EU.

Ethics panel recommendation to expel Mahua Moitra political vendetta: TMC MP
Trinamool Congress leader in Lok Sabha Sudip Bandyopadhyay Friday described the Ethics Committee's recommendation to expel party MP Mahua Moitra in a "cash-for-query" allegation as "political vendetta" and claimed that it was aimed at stopping her from raising issues against the Adani Group. Bandyopadhyay said he had a one-on-one meeting with Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla, who informed him that the report would be tabled along with a resolution. He told the Speaker that Moitra should be given time to make her speech on the floor of the house to which Birla replied that half an hour would be given for discussion on the matter.

One killed, 14 children injured in Jharkhand road accident
One person was killed, while 14 children were injured after a school van collided with a bus in Jharkhand's Hazaribag district on Friday morning, police said. The incident took place around 7.30 am near a railway siding in Katkamsandi area, about 130 km from state capital Ranchi, they said. "The school van driver was killed in the accident, and all the 14 injured students were admitted to Sheikh Bhikari Medical College and Hospital for treatment. The condition of some of them is stated to be critical," Hazaribag Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Rajiv Kumar said.

ZPM leader Lalduhoma takes oath as Chief Minister of Mizoram
Zoram People's Movement (ZPM) leader Lalduhoma was sworn in as the chief minister of Mizoram on Friday. Governor Hari Babu Kambhampati administered the oath of office and secrecy to Lalduhoma. Eleven other ZPM leaders will also take oath as ministers. The swearing-in ceremony was held at the Raj Bhavan where Mizo National Front leader and outgoing chief minister Zoramthanga was present. All MNF MLAs, including its legislature party leader Lalchhandama Ralte, attended the event. Former chief minister Lal Thanhawla was also present there.

Chinese military surveillance balloon spotted in Taiwan Strait, says island's defence ministry
Taiwan's Defence Ministry says a Chinese military surveillance balloon was spotted in the Taiwan Strait, as well as a large-scale dispatch of military aircraft and ships. The ministry said the balloon passed southwest of the northern port city of Keelung on Thursday night, then continued east before disappearing, possibly into the Pacific Ocean. Taiwan has threatened to shoot down such balloons, but the ministry did not say what, if any, action was taken. It said the balloon was monitored flying at an altitude of approximately 6,400 meters (21,000 feet).
