The US on February 1 approved the sale of 31 MQ-9B armed drones to India at an estimated cost of $3.99 billion, an acquisition that will bolster India's capability to meet current and future threats by enabling unmanned surveillance and reconnaissance patrols in sea lanes of operation. The drone deal was announced during the State Visit of Prime Minister Narendra Modi here in June 2023.

With the Muslim side moving the Allahabad High Court challenging a Varanasi court verdict, allowing Hindu devotees to hold prayers inside the disputed 'Vyas Ka Tekhana' area of the Gyanvapi mosque, a heavy security cordon was thrown around the complex on Friday. The Muslim community also announced a 'bandh' in the area after filing the plea in the Allahabad High Court.
