'Members are disappointed': Nasscom slams Karnataka govt's decision to reserve jobs for Kannadigas

In a statement, the tech body said, "Nasscom and its members are disappointed and express deep concern regarding the passage of the Karnataka State Employment of Local Industries Factories Establishment Act Bill, 2024." "Restrictions could force companies to relocate as local skilled talent becomes scarce," it added. NASSCOM is an Indian non-governmental trade association and advocacy group that primarily serves the Indian technology industry.

Porsche crash case: Panel recommends action against JJB members for 'procedural lapses' in bail to minor

The committee investigating the conduct of two Juvenile Justice Board (JJB) members in connection with the bail given to the minor accused in the Pune Porsche crash case has recommended disciplinary action against them for "procedural lapses", an official said on Wednesday. "In its report, the committee recommended action against the two JJB members for the procedural lapses. Based on the report findings, they (JJB members) were issued a show-cause notice which sought their replies. But as their replies were not satisfactory, we wrote to the state government and proposed a disciplinary action against both the members," a official said.

Four detained for questioning in connection with murder of VIP chief's father

Bihar Police have detained four persons for questioning in connection with its probe into the murder of Jitan Sahni, father of Vikassheel Insaan Party (VIP) chief Mukesh Sahni. A statement issued by Darbhanga Police said, "Analysis of the CCTV footage has revealed that these four persons entered the house of Jitan Sahni around 10.30 pm on July 15 and stayed there for half an hour."

Mephedrone worth over Rs 2 crore seized, two drug peddlers held

Police have arrested two drug peddlers from Navi Mumbai and seized from them mephedrone worth more than Rs 2 crore, an official said on Wednesday. The arrest was made on Tuesday by the Anti-Narcotics Cell (ANC) of the Navi Mumbai police, he said. The accused were identified as Salauddin Allahuddin Shaikh and Fazal Jafar Khan, both aged 21 and residents of Mahim in central Mumbai, he said.

On July 16, Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah announced that the state cabinet approved a bill mandating 100 per cent reservation for Kannadigas in private firms for Group C and Group D posts.  "The Cabinet meeting held yesterday approved a bill to make recruitment of 100 per cent Kannadigas mandatory for 'C and D' grade posts in all private industries in the state," Siddaramaiah said in a post on X.
