FIR filed against Puja Khedkar's father in Pune for obstructing government work

Police have registered a case against Dilip Khedkar, the father of former probationary IAS officer Puja Khedkar, on charges of threatening and obstructing a public servant in the discharge of duty in Pune district, officials said on Friday. The case was filed at the Bundgarden police station here on the basis of a complaint lodged by a tehsildar-rank officer from the Pune district collectorate, they said.

Five tank wagons of a freight train derailed near Kumedpur bridge in Bihar's Katihar district on Friday, Railway officials said. The derailment has led to obstruction of the track and efforts are on to clear the lines for smooth train operation.

PM Modi to visit Wayanad tomorrow

Prime Minister Narendra Modi will visit the landslide-hit Wayanad district in Kerala on Saturday. Modi would also conduct an aerial survey of the disaster zone. He would arrive at the Kannur airport by a special flight and fly on an IAF helicopter to Wayanad.

Mumbai hoarding collapse: HC dismisses accused ad firm director's plea against his arrest

The Bombay High Court on Friday dismissed the petition filed by advertising firm director Bhavesh Bhinde, arrested in the Ghatkopar hoarding collapse case, in which he claimed that his arrest was illegal and sought immediate release.
A division bench of Justices Bharati Dangre and Manjusha Deshpande said it has not found any legal infirmity and no impairment in the procedure mandated while arresting a person.

SC rejects plea against election of Amritpal Singh as Lok Sabha MP

The top court dismissed a plea against the election of jailed radical Sikh preacher Amritpal Singh as an MP from Punjab's Khadoor Sahib. The petitioner claimed before a bench of Justices B R Gavai and K V Viswanathan that Article 84 of the Constitution deals with qualification for membership of Parliament and says that a person shall not be qualified to be chosen to fill a seat in Parliament unless he is a citizen of India.
