BJP legitimised graft through 'washing machine' process: NCP (SP) on Shah's jibe at Pawar

The NCP (SP) on Sunday hit back at Union Home Minister Amit Shah for terming Sharad Pawar as the "sargana" (ringleader) of corruption, saying it is the BJP which has "legitimised" corruption by incorporating tainted leaders in the saffron fold. "They accuse political leaders of corruption, and then once those who they accuse join BJP, they are all given a clean chit. This is the BJP's washing machine process of legitimising corruption," NCP (Sharadchandra Pawar) national spokesperson Clyde Crasto stated.

India had its own prime meridian passing through Ujjain: New NCERT textbook

India had a prime meridian of its own much ahead of the Greenwich meridian and it was called "madhya rekha", which passed through the city of Ujjain in Madhya Pradesh, according to a new Class-6 NCERT textbook for social science. No mention of caste-based discrimination, tweaks in references to B R Ambedkar's experience about the discrimination, referring to the Harappan civilisation as "Sindhu-Sarasvati" are also among the changes in the textbook developed according to a new curriculum.

Central govt to deploy team to support Kerala in probing Nipah virus case

The government will deploy a multi-member joint outbreak response team to support Kerala in investigating a Nipah virus case detected in its Mallapuram district, identifying epidemiological linkages and providing technical assistance. In a statement on Sunday, the Union health ministry said a 14-year-old boy from the district exhibited the acute encephalitis syndrome and was admitted to a healthcare facility in Perinthalmanna before being transferred to a higher health centre in Kozhikode.

Telangana CM Reddy in Delhi to invite top Cong leaders for farm-loan waiver event

Telangana Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy arrived in New Delhi on Sunday for a two-day visit to invite top Congress leaders for a public meeting in Warangal focused on farm-debt waiver programmes. Sources said Reddy is slated to meet Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge and is also likely to seek time from former Congress chief Rahul Gandhi for the public meet.

Food processing deserves 'good Budget': Union minister Paswan

Union Food Processing Minister Chirag Paswan feels that his ministry "deserves a good budget" allocation for setting up of processing units across the country which will help in providing job opportunities to local people and also boost farmers' income.

Without disclosing contents of his ministry's request from the Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman, Paswan said his ministry has sent the Budget wish list to the finance ministry and was not sure of how much of that will be accepted in this budget, considering the limitations.

Plea in SC seeks stay on re-examination of UGC-NET after it was cancelled

A plea has been filed in the Supreme Court against the decision of the Union education ministry to cancel the UGC-NET test following inputs that the exam's integrity may have been compromised.

The ministry on June 19 had ordered the cancellation of the UGC-NET exam and handed over the matter to the CBI for an investigation.

The plea is scheduled to come up for hearing before a bench of Chief Justice D Y Chandrachud and Justices J B Pardiwala and Manoj Misra

Restoration work underway after landslide claims 10 lives in Uttara Kannada

Restoration work is underway following a massive landslide that claimed the lives of 10 people on National Highway 66 near Shirur village in Ankola taluk earlier on July 18.

Earlier on Saturday, Uttara Kannada Deputy Commissioner Lakshmi Priya said that seven bodies were recovered as rescue operations continued in the landslide-hit district in Karnataka.

Tyre maker CEAT Ltd expects double-digit growth in replacement and international business this fiscal despite a high natural rubber price forcing it to hike product rates, according to its MD and CEO Arnab Banerjee.

The company, which has taken price hikes of 2-2.5 per cent in the replacement segment since May, expects another round of increase towards the end of July but is betting on robust demand across categories and turnaround of the rural market to drive growth.

Boy infected with Nipah in Kerala dead, says Health Minister Veena George

The 14-year-old boy from Kerala's Malappuram, who was undergoing treatment here for Nipah infection, died on Sunday, state Health Minister Veena George said.

George said the boy from Pandikkad suffered a massive cardiac arrest at 10.50 am on Sunday and efforts to revive him failed.

"He was on ventilator support. The urine output had reduced this morning. After a massive cardiac arrest, the revival efforts failed and he passed away at 11.30 am," George said.

Case filed against Jindal Group executive over molestation on flight allegation

A case was filed against a senior executive of a Jindal Group company for allegedly molesting a female co-passenger on a Kolkata-Abu Dhabi flight, an officer of the Bidhanngar City Police said on Sunday.

The FIR was registered on the basis of a complaint lodged by the woman's parents at the Airport police station on the northern outskirts of Kolkata on Saturday, he said.

A Vistara flight from Amritsar to Mumbai has been rerouted to Ahmedabad due to adverse weather conditions at Mumbai airport.

Flight UK696 from Amritsar to Mumbai (ATQ-BOM) has been diverted to Ahmedabad (AMD) due to bad weather at Mumbai airport and is expected to arrive in Ahmedabad (AMD) at 12.15 hours, Vistara Airlines said in an official statement.

The Regional Meteorological Centre (RMC) in Mumbai has issued a yellow alert for heavy rain in the city, which will remain in effect until July 24.
