1 person killed, 7 injured as bus hits trailer truck on Mumbai-Pune Expressway

A 40-year-old man was killed and seven other passengers injured after a private bus hit a trailer truck on the Mumbai-Pune Expressway in Maharashtra's Raigad district in the wee hours of Sunday, a police official said.

Traffic movement on the expressway was affected for sometime after the accident, which took place at 1.40 am at Khopoli in Raigad when the bus was on way to Pune from Mumbai. The bus driver, Shirish Dhekale (43), lost control over the wheels following which the vehicle dashed against a trailer truck moving in front of it, the Raigad police official said.

Sony confident for double-digit growth journey in India, helped by premiumisation

Consumer electronics maker Sony India expects a 15-20 per cent growth in this fiscal with the trend of premiumisation in the Indian TV and audio market helping it make a turnaround, a top company official said.

The company's premium television category comprising screen size of 55 inches and above along with audio products would be the "key growth drivers" for Sony India, as the trend of premium products has evolved in the country, Sony India Managing Director Sunil Nayyar said.

Road accidents in Punjab in 2021 and 2022 caused more deaths than injuries, according to the latest NCRB report.

However, in neighbouring Haryana, while the number of fatalities were higher than in Punjab, road accidents caused more injuries than deaths, the National Crime Records Bureau (NCRB) data showed.

Condoning terror acts, terrorists a great disservice to human rights cause: NHRC chief

Terrorism causes grave violation of human rights of citizens in the entire world, and condoning or sympathising with terror acts and terrorists is a "great disservice" to the cause of human rights, NHRC Chairperson Justice (Retd) Arun Kumar Mishra said on Sunday.

In his address at an event to mark Human Rights Day at Bharat Mandapam, Justice Mishra also said the ethical ramifications of advancing technologies are "matter of grave concern".

USFDA pulls up Intas Pharma for manufacturing lapses at Ahmedabad plant

The US health regulator has pulled up Intas Pharmaceuticals for manufacturing lapses, including violation of current good manufacturing practice (CGMP) regulation, at its Ahmedabad-based plant.

In a warning letter to the company's CEO and MD Nimish Chudgar, the US Food and Drug Administration (USFDA) has pointed out various manufacturing lapses at the Matoda-Sanand, Ahmedabad-based facility.

PM talking up transformative GDP but what matters is growth rates: Congress

The Congress on Sunday said Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman are "repeatedly talking up" transformative GDP growth based on the recent July-September numbers but what matters more is annual growth rates over a longer period.

Annual average GDP growth rate during the UPA government was 8.1 per cent against 5.4 per cent under the current dispensation, it further said.

Amit Shah to chair meeting of Eastern Zonal Council in Patna today

Union Home Minister Amit Shah will chair the 26th meeting of the Eastern Zonal Council (EZC) in Patna on Sunday, according to an official statement.

Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar and representatives of other member states will attend the meeting.

According to the official statement, several issues like minimum price for a number of minor millets, creation of infrastructure, water sharing, etc, are expected to be discussed in the meeting. Eastern Zonal Council comprises the states of Bihar, West Bengal, Odisha and Jharkhand.

3 people killed and 1 wounded in Atlanta shooting, police say

A shooting in Atlanta killed three people and left one victim wounded Saturday evening, police say. The Atlanta Police Department said officers responded to an address on Peachtree Road NE around 6:25 p.m., WANF-TV reported. Police said three victims were pronounced dead at the scene and the fourth was transported to a hospital, WANF reported.

Uttar Pradesh: Eight burnt alive after car suffers tyre burst, rams dumper head-on on highway

Eight people were charred to death after a horrific head-to-head collision between a dumper and a car on the Bareilly-Nainital Highway, in the Bhojipura police station area of Uttar Pradesh on Saturday night, officials said.

According to eyewitnesses, the car suffered a tyre burst resulting in a head-on collision with a dumper coming from Uttarakhand.

Hamas beat civilians, steals aid received from int'l organisations: IDF

Israel Defence Forces (IDF) on Sunday accused Hamas terrorists of beating civilians and stealing the humanitarian aid that Gaza received from international organisations. The IDF stated that Hamas puts its terrorist goals over the needs of Gaza residents.

IDF shared a video on X that showed people getting beaten by some individuals. In the video, some individuals also placed some material in the vehicle.

IMD issues fog alert for five states including MP, Bengal for next two days

India Meteorological Department issued a fog alert in isolated areas over five states on December 10 and 11.
 
As per an IMD statement, dense fog during the morning hours is very likely in isolated pockets over north Madhya Pradesh, Sub-Himalayan West Bengal, Sikkim, Assam and Meghalaya on December 10 and 11. IMD further forecasted that a fresh feeble Western disturbance is likely to affect the Western Himalayan Region from December 11.
