Two held in Punjab for harbouring Amritpal Singh

Two men have been arrested for allegedly harbouring radical preacher Amritpal Singh, who has been on the run after police launched a crackdown against him last month, officials said on Saturday.
 
The arrested men have been identified as Rajdeep Singh of Babak village in Hoshiarpur district and Sarbjit Singh of Jalandhar district, the police said.

In all probability, the occasion will be on May 9 when the country will be celebrating the birth anniversary of Gurudev Rabindranath Tagore.
 
IANS sources from the BJP state committee said that they have requested the minister to visit the state often. To which, the minister had expressed his desire to come to the state again on May 9 and attend the function celebrating Tagore's birthday.

Trinamool MLA throws mobile phones during CBI raid at his house

Trinamool Congress MLA Jiban Krishna Saha threw his mobile phones in a pond while the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) was conducting a raid at his house in connection with the multi-crore scam teachers' recruitment scam in West Bengal.
 
The raid that started at 1.30 p.m. on Friday, is still underway. More CBI sleuths joined the investigation early Saturday morning.
 
According to the latest information, the CBI sleuths have started pumping out water from the pond where Saha threw away his mobile phones.

Massive fire guts popular shopping centre in Bangladesh capital

A massive pre-dawn fire gutted thousands of shops at a shopping centre here on Saturday, forcing the country's military to make frantic attempts to douse the raging inferno, days after a popular clothing market was partially destroyed.

The fire started at the second floor of New SuperMarket, a shopping centre between the popular Newmarket and Dhaka College at 5.45 am and quickly spread to other floors, Newmarket Police Station chief Shafiqul Gani Sabu, was quoted as saying by news portal bdnews24.com.

Two tourists from TN drown in sea at Thiruvananthapuram

Two tourists, including a nine-year-old boy, from Tamil Nadu drowned in the sea here on Saturday morning.

Drone shot down near India-Pakistan border in Punjab

The Border Security Force (BSF) shot down an intruding drone near the India-Pakistan border on Saturday.

The drone was spotted at Bachiwind village near the international border at 3.21 am on Saturday.

BSF troops recovered three packets of heroin weighing around 3.2 kg.

An under-trial prisoner died and three inmates were injured after a scuffle between inmates happened in Tihar Jail, Delhi police informed on Friday.
 
"An under-trial prisoner died and 3 inmates were injured during a scuffle that broke out in Tihar jail between prisoners," the police official said.
 
"33-year-old Prince Teotia was declared dead at the hospital. The condition of the other three injured is stable," the official said.
