Congress leader Rahul Gandhi launches the Bharat Jodo Nyay Yatra in Manipur's Thoubal today. The yatra focusses on key issues like unemployment, price rise, and social justice in the lead-up to the Lok Sabha elections. "Governance infrastructure has completely failed in Manipur. It's shameful that PM Narendra Modi hasn't visited the state," Gandhi said in his address at the rally's launch. The Congress emphasizes that this yatra is ideological, not electoral, aiming to address the "anyay kaal" (period of injustice) during the 10-year tenure of the Modi government.
The Commission for Air Quality Management (CAQM) reinstated restrictions in Delhi today under stage-3 anti-pollution measure GRAP. This includes a ban on all non-essential construction work and the operation of BS-III petrol and BS-IV diesel vehicles in Delhi-NCR. Consequently, the air quality in the national capital and NCR once again reached severe levels.
Congress leader Milind Deora announced his resignation from the primary membership of Congress today, bringing an end to his family's 55-year association with the party. “Today marks the conclusion of a significant chapter in my political journey. I have tendered my resignation from the primary membership of Congress, ending my family’s 55-year relationship with the party" Deora posted on social media platform X.
As per a Delhi government order, all schools in the national capital have been directed to reopen physically from 15 January (tomorrow) onwards. With this, the extended winter break ends but as a precautionary measure for the prevailing foggy situation no school including double shift schools will start before 9 am and no school will have classes beyond 5 pm, the order said.
A dense layer of fog blanketed Delhi, impairing traffic movement as the national capital experiences bitter coldwaves. The minimum temperature in the RK Puram Area was recorded at 7 degrees Celsius in the early hours of Sunday morning. On Friday, Delhi saw the season's first cold wave day, which, according to the India Meteorological Department (IMD), is recorded when the minimum temperature goes below 4 degrees Celsius.
