ED attaches 10 properties worth Rs 55.17 crores in Afroz Fatta case
The Enforcement Directorate (ED) has provisionally attached ten immovable properties worth approximately Rs 55.17 crores in a money laundering case involving RA Distributors Private Limited and Others, also known as the Afroz Fatta case.
The amount seized on Friday was held by Pankaj Kapur, Vijen Girishchandra Jhaveri and their family members. The properties were seized under the provisions of the Prevention of Money Laundering Act, 2002. The total attachment in the case stands at Rs 115 crores.
"ED has provisionally attached ten immovable properties worth Rs. 55.17 Crore (approx.) held in the name of Pankaj Kapur, Vijen Girishchandra Jhaveri and their family members in the case of M/s R A Distributors Pvt Ltd and others (Afroz Fatta case) under the provisions of the PMLA, 2002 on 06.10.2023. Total attachment in this case stands at Rs. 115 Crore," the ED said in a post on 'X' on Monday.

SC declines to entertain Delhi Congress plea on First Level Checking of EVMs
The Supreme Court on Monday declined to entertain a plea filed by the Delhi Congress on "First Level Checking" of Electronic Voting Machines (EVMs).
The Congress party in Delhi challenged the State Election Commission's conduct in relation to the "First Level Checking" of EVMs and VVPATs ahead of the upcoming general elections.
The top court said the process is detailed and parties have faith in it. The process has been replicated across India, the court added.
Amit Shah to chair review meeting of Vishwakarma scheme with BJP leaders
Union Home Minister Amit Shah will chair a review meeting of the Vishwakarma scheme in the national capital with the BJP leaders on Monday.
BJP leaders arrived at the BJP Central Office Extension to attend a meeting chaired by Union Home Minister Amit Shah with Vishwakarma Samaj people.
"Amit Shah will review the preparation regarding this scheme. He will assign and make a team to implement this scheme in a proper way. The focus will be on registration, training, implementation etc. To date, 2 lakh Viswakarma people have registered. Another 30 lakh people are expected to register under this scheme in five years. Every year six lakh registrations will be done," a party source told ANI.
Congress Working Committee members meet at AICC headquarters in Delhi
The Congress Working Committee (CWC) meeting scheduled to be held on October 9 has commenced in the national capital.
The meeting will hold discussions on various issues from poll strategies for the upcoming elections to caste-based census and the Women's Reservation Act.
Congress Parliamentary Party Chairperson Sonia Gandhi, Congress Chief Mallikarjun Kharge and Congress leaders Priyanka Gandhi Vadra and Rahul Gandhi arrived at the AICC office to attend the meeting.
Refrigerator compressor explodes in Jalandhar, five of family killed
Five members of a family, including three children, were killed after an explosion in the compressor of a refrigerator at a house in Punjab's Jalandhar district, police said on Monday.
The incident took place on Sunday night, they said, adding the house caught fire following the explosion.
The deceased were identified as Yashpal Ghai (70), Ruchi Ghai (40), Mansha (14), Diya (12) and Akshay (10).
Jharkhand: 10 Bajrang Dal activists including women injured in stone-pelting in Hazaribag
At least 10 Bajrang Dal activists including women were injured when their bus was pelted with stones by a mob while they were returning to Hazaribag after participating in the 'Shourya Jagaran Yatra Programme' at Ranchi, police said on Monday.
The incident took place near a mosque in Pelawal area near Hazaribag at about 8.45 pm on Sunday.
Hazaribag Superintendent of Police, Manoj Ratan Chothe told PTI that no arrests have been made so far but the miscreants of both the groups involved in the incident have been identified and FIRs would be lodged against the persons involved.
Air force conducts disaster relief operations in Sikkim
The Indian Air Force has started humanitarian aid and disaster relief operations in Sikkim, devastated by a flash flood in Teesta river, a Defence official said on Monday.
Thirty-three bodies, including those of nine army jawans, have been recovered so far from slush and debris left behind by the flash flood that devastated Sikkim, while the search continued for more than 105 people who are still missing, officials in the Himalayan state said.
The Jalpaiguri district administration in adjoining northern West Bengal has said 40 bodies were fished out of the river downstream.
Actor Shah Rukh Khan gets Y+ security cover amid threats
The Maharashtra police have provided Y+ security cover to Bollywood superstar Shah Rukh Khan in view of the "imminent and probable threats" to his life, an official said on Monday.
The Y+ cover comprises 11 security personnel, including six commandos, and a police escort vehicle, he said.
Khan (57) has been getting threats after the release of his latest movie "Jawan", the official said.
Crimes against women increasing under Congress leadership: Pradhan
Ahead of the Rajasthan Legislative Assembly polls that are scheduled to be conducted by the end of 2023, Union Minister Dharmendra Pradhan targeted the Ashok Gehlot government and said that crimes against women are increasing in the state under the leadership of Congress.
Speaking in a press conference held in Jaipur on Sunday, the Union Minister spoke on crimes against women, farmers' situation and paper leaks in the state.
"The crimes against women are continuously increasing in the state. Pratapgarh and Kota are the biggest examples of this. In the past five years, 19 times papers of state government exams have been leaked. These incidents make youth directionless. The same paper leak case has dashed the hopes of the youth," said Pradhan.
Balasore train accident: Bhubaneswar municipal corp to dispose of 28 unclaimed bodies
Four months after the triple train accident that claimed 297 lives in Odisha's Balasore district, the authorities of the Bhubaneswar Municipal Corporation (BMC) have initiated a process of disposing of 28 unidentified bodies, an official said.
The civic body issued a standard operating procedure for scientifically disposing of the remains of the 28 people whose rightful claimants were not found, he said.
"We have issued an SOP for the scientific disposal of the unclaimed bodies of those who were killed in the triple train accident. The bodies will be handed over to the corporation in the presence of CBI officials and we are planning for the cremation on Tuesday," BMC Mayor Sulochana Das told reporters here.

3 people killed, 28 injured after bus crashes into ditch in Nainital
Three people were killed after a bus carrying 32 passengers crashed into a ditch in Uttarakhand's Nainital district, police said on Sunday.
So far, 28 people have been rescued, and further rescue operations are underway, officials said.
Speaking to ANI, Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Nainital PN Meena said, "28 people have been rescued so far, 3 people have died in the accident, and we have recovered their bodies. 1-2 people are still trapped, they will be rescued soon".
