Doctor held in Tamil Nadu for sexual assault of school children
A medical doctor has been arrested for sexual assault of girl students of a school, who were also inmates of a hostel that functioned from within the school premises, police said on Wednesday. The information on sexual abuse, over a period of a few months allegedly by the doctor, came to light after an interaction with students by officials including the District Child Protection Officer, who acted on the basis of a phone call to Child Helpline, alerting authorities of the crime.

Supreme Court stays Gujarat HC order rejecting affidavit filed by 'The Times of India'
The top court today stayed an order of the Gujarat High Court that had rejected an affidavit filed by "The Times of India", tendering an apology for "wrong reporting" on the hearing of a matter. The high court had, on September 2, granted three more days to "The Times of India" and two other newspapers to tender a public apology in their publications in bold letters on the front page, clearly intimating the public about the "wrong reporting made by them" on August 13.

Police officer shot dead in Pakistan's Khyber Pakhtunkhwa
A police officer was shot dead by unknown gunmen in Pakistan's restive northwestern Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province on Wednesday. The police constable, identified as Waqar Ahmed, was shot dead near his residence in Nawarkhel village in Lakki Marwat district bordering Afghanistan. He died on the spot and his body was shifted to a hospital for postmortem.

President Droupadi Murmu inaugurated the Vishwashanti Buddha Vihar at Udgir in Maharashtra's Latur district on Wednesday. Govt to clear FAME 3 scheme in 1-2 months: Heavy Industries Minister Kumaraswamy
The government is expected to finalise the third phase of its flagship electric mobility adoption scheme FAME in a month or two, Union Heavy Industries Minister H D Kumaraswamy said on Wednesday. He said that an inter-ministerial group is working on the inputs received for the scheme, and efforts are being made to address the issues in the first two phases of the Faster Adoption and Manufacturing of (Hybrid and) Electric Vehicle (FAME) scheme.
FAME 3 will replace the temporary Electric Mobility Promotion Scheme (EMPS) 2024, which is set to expire in September.

Delhi HC asks jail authorities to file reply to Sanjay Singh's plea to allow meeting with CM Kejriwal
The Delhi High Court on Wednesday asked the Tihar Jail authorities to file response on a plea by AAP MP Sanjay Singh claiming that he was not being allowed to meet Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal in prison. Singh said jail authorities denied him a physical meeting with Kejriwal in prison on grounds that he was an ex-prisoner.
Justice Neena Bansal Krishna granted three days to the jail authorities to file their response to the petition, and listed the matter for hearing on September 9.

Centre plans special purpose vehicle for pushing aircraft manufacturing in India
